i went to a weather balloon launch yesterday. i shit you not.

it was cool. the guy who was in charge of it was a cranky serbian that kept saying that he would've told us more stuff, but we were late. we got there 45 minutes before the launch

I've been around my share of weather balloons out at PTI where they are launched twice a day (under normal conditions). It's not terribly exciting but the weather information is invaluable.

i can tell you that the balloon itself costs $60... or at least it does if you buy it from lockheed martin in whatever bulk they do at OAK.
