Why do you insist on riding your fucking bike on busy, hilly roads?

Get a car ya bums. Or get a stationary bike.

And why is that? What business do you have going 20 mph on a 55 mph road while holding up 20 cars behind you. It's fucking dangerous to have us dart around you, not only to you but to us as well. Not to mention its fucking inconsiderate. There are thousands of options around where a cyclist can ride their bike where the speed difference between car and cyclist is less and/or the roads are less congested. Unfoetunately for me, my options are far more limited! On the weekday I have seen this road backed up in bumper to bumper traffic for miles, and you think it's a good idea for cyclists to use this road?

If these makes me an asshole, then cyclists who pull this shit are bigger assholes than me.

I'm sorry it's so inconvenient for you to have to wait an extra two minutes for an opening to pass a cyclist.

For bicycle commuters, there really isn't a choice on some roads. So deal with it.

Maybe if more people pressured the city we could actually have bike lanes.

Also, consider this: Have you ever been stuck in rush hour traffic on I-40? Wouldn't you rather all those cars rather be cyclists who were off the highway and on other roads?

The more bike-friendly the roads are, the more cyclists there will be, and the less cars there will be on the roads, which is a good thing for everyone.

In summary: Stop whining.

This is actually the funniest type of traffic for a commuter cyclist.

When I would bike to work, I would take Chapel Hill road into RTP. On the way home, it would be so congested with cars that they would be stopped for miles. I would just ride by them on the shoulder and watch them all frustrated at being stuck in traffic. So much for cars.

Suckers. Deal with it.

Very few cyclists are assholes that ride right in the lane and go to the front of every red light. I see cars all the time ride right up on bikes or just about side-swipe them. A couple of times I thought about calling the cops it was so bad. I see where merbig is coming from but other drivers are a far worse irritant.

my only beef with cyclists is the ones that say they have equal rights to use the road, it's the law, etc.

then they openly run red lights and break other laws because they're "just on a bike"

I'm with the OP. You have to be a real dick to ride your bike on a 35mph+ busy road during rush hour. That crap might be bearable in inner city situations where there are like 3 or 4 lanes of one way traffic going 25. But those exist in very few places in NC. The "I'm on a bike so its OK" approach to traffic laws a lot of them take is also annoying as hell.

These weren't commuters you dumb cunt. It was fucking Sunday and they were in their gay ass bicycle attire. My traffic description was an attempt to paint you a picture as to how busy this road can be. Fucking Semis and shit travel on this road constantly. It's dumb whether you're a commuter or not.

Quote :

I don't disagree with the notion of bike lanes. But I wouldn't hold your breath on getting bike lanes on this particular road. It needs to be widened to a 2 lane highway before they think about adding bike lanes.

Cyclists are dangerous. 99% of the idiots I see on bikes aren't commuting to work. They're in their spandex just getting in the way. If you're commuting to work, and your bike is the only way to get there, then I admire that. Just biking for the hell of it on busy roads? You're going to cause a wreck some day.

And this "share the road" crap is law probably only because it's been on the books since cars were a new thing. That's just a guess, but it wouldn't surprise me.

My biggest thing is that they selectively choose what laws policies to follow.

Can't remember how many times I've seen cyclists

-Run stop lights, signs.
-Pass other cars while stopped.
-Fail to signal.
-Cross the center line.
etc,etc,etc.

You assholes can't ignore all the road rules then whine about cars and how you should be on the road. Unless you're Lance Armstrong stay off the road.

My only beef with cars is the ones that say they have equal rights to the road, but then pass me.

Because that's technically illegal unless it's a pass-allowed lane. But I don't say anything because I'm a nice person.

Except when they pass me but come within an inch of me...

even though I'm riding on the shoulder, which is an area covered with cigarette butts and rocks and broken glass, which is a courtesy to them.

I could just as easily be riding in the middle of the lane, making it impossible for them to pass me. But I don't.

And cars that do rolling right turns. Which is also illegal.

And cars that speed.

So uh... I guess we all do illegal things. But feel free to gang up on the people that don't use up fossil fuels and don't take up a spot on I-40.

Also feel free to take the one or two bikers that have pissed you off and say, "ALL BIKERS ARE FAGGOTS AND I HOPE THEY LITERALLY DIE BECAUSE I AM A CHILD."\

Quote :
"Cyclists are dangerous. 99% of the idiots I see on bikes aren't commuting to work. They're in their spandex just getting in the way"

True story: People wear bike shorts when they're commuting.

Quote :
"You're going to cause a wreck some day."

Hey, you know what else causes car wrecks? Cars. Let's get those off the road and I'm sure the car wrecks will drop tremendously!

Quote :
"-Run stop lights, signs.

-Cross the center line.
etc,etc,etc."

People who do this are stupid and it's alright to yell at them for it. Most of the people I see doing this are college students/hipsters around campus.

Anyone in an actual cycling getup on a real bike is damn well going to signal to cars and follow most traffic laws, because if they're in any cycling group they're going to insist upon it.

And as far as red lights go, there are certain times when it's perfectly alright to run them. T-stops, for one example. And not to mention that a bicycle doesn't trigger the light change signal.

there is never a legally acceptable time where its "perfectly alright to run" a red light... even when turning right is allowed, you should always come to a complete stop behind the stop line

Wrong.

From NC's DMV handbook:

Quote :
" A bicyclist staying to the right in their lane is accommodating following drivers
by making it easier to see when it is safe to pass, and easier to execute the pass.
Drivers wishing to pass a bicyclist may do so only when there is abundant
clearance and no oncoming traffic is in the opposing lane. When passing a
bicyclist, always remember the bicyclist is entitled to use of the full lane."

And you don't say anything because you're wrong.

Quote :
"Except when they pass me but come within an inch of me..."

I doubt they come within an inch of you. Drivers only have to provide you 2 feet of clearance. (less than an arms length for most people).

Quote :
"even though I'm riding on the shoulder, which is an area covered with cigarette butts and rocks and broken glass, which is a courtesy to them.

I could just as easily be riding in the middle of the lane, making it impossible for them to pass me. But I don't. "

Well thank you. I usually get into the left lane anyway when passing a bike. So use all you want, because I'm still going to legally pass you.

Quote :
"Also feel free to take the one or two bikers that have pissed you off and say, "ALL BIKERS ARE FAGGOTS AND I HOPE THEY LITERALLY DIE BECAUSE I AM A CHILD.""

I don't want all cyclists to die. I don't want any of them to die. I just want them to stop being stupid. On Sunday afternoon doing some leisurely bicycling, there is no fucking need for them to use a busy road. It's dangerous!

^ God was driving his 97 Civic Si once and hit a cigarette butt. Fucked his camber all to shreds. He had it in the shop for a week getting that sports tuned suspension re-tuned so he could put up some sick times at VIR. But the mechanics could never get the suspension quite right though, and he could only get within 0.1 of his fastest time. I took a crack at setting his camber again, but it only knocked another 0.001 off the time. You should have seen him. He was all torn up. Especially when an older gentleman passed him in his 95 Bimmer M3. Hell, he even had my fat ass get out of the car so he could try and pass him again. But it just didn't happen. He eventually put on some monroe shocks and a magnaflow exhaust and gained some of that time back. But the coolness factor of his car increased 10 fold with the exhaust. This guy was something special back in his day. That Si and him. It never left his sight.

Then again, I just ride my bike to bars to drink. I wouldn't call myself a cyclist...more of a biking enthusiast. I also ride a beach cruiser, not a nice bike. My contribution to this thread is minimal if anything at all.
