I know nothing about Apple products, but the GF wants an iPad 2 for her birthday. Is this a good deal?

It's the same price you will find it literally anywhere else, including Apple Retail stores (if they still carry them, I assume they would). So no, it's not a good deal, but it's not a bad one either. It's just the price. I would look into getting a refurbished one from Apple.com first if you don't want to get a new iPad 3rd gen.

Yep. And it's probably worth the extra $100 to upgrade. Unless her eyes are shit, or you want them to be.

I just assumed that you knew about the iPad 3 and were looking to cut a few corners and save a few bucks. Quite honestly, I'd think getting her a year old iPad2 would be more insulting than a refurbished "new" iPad3. But that's just my opinion.

it's called "The New iPad". Retina display makes it totally worth the extra 100 bucks. Also has a full HD front facing camera

No, the front facing camera is the same crappy one from the iPad2. The rear facing one is the one that got upgraded. Plus it got a quad core GPU so it can handle video games better. And 4G vs 3G if you decide to go that route.

But yeah, the screen is the big improvement. Everything else is just small stuff.

She asked for the iPad 2, so that's what I was going for. If there is a newer model then I am down with that

Upon further review, it is indeed the 3rd generation that she wants. Again, I am an Apple dummy.

Yep. That one just came out last month. We got one for my dad for his birthday last week, the GBoro Apple store had them in stock, but they are closed until the 9th I think, for renovation. Last time I checked there was a 3-5 day wait on ordering them online.
