This shit is expensive. I figure some one out on t-dub has to know a way of getting it cheaper (making your own mix, craigslist, farmers market).

Probably something synapse is an expert on.

I could likely make a reproductive joke right here about bird seed, but realizing that this is not Chit Chat, I better not.

Have you compared buying it on Amazon? With free Prime shipping I wouldn't be surprised if it works out cheaper.

Birds don't need seed. They have survived a long time without people feeding them. Also consider that they spill it all over the place, and having a steady supply of seed also enjoyed by rodents encourages them to hang around your home.

I've never felt like it was that expensive. Maybe you're doing it wrong. Are you buying the pet bird seed or something?

it is expensive. the birds in my yard won't eat the stuff that's predominately milo, & they kick it out onto the ground, where it sprouts/creates a mess. the mixes that use very little milo or leave it out cost way more. tractor supply used to be my go-to place for seed ($5 for 9 lbs, very little milo) but they started adding a lot of cracked corn this year, which turns into a brick if it gets the slightest bit wet. they upped the price a couple of bucks also.

walmart has some of the higher prices i've noticed. lowe's actually has some good prices for the quality. i still hate that tractor supply changed theirs up bc it was soooo much cheaper than anywhere else. i'm looking into something prime or subscribe & save from amazon now. haven't found anything yet though.

i have 6 feeders (varying in size) & a LOT of birds in my yard. mostly chickadees, titmice, cardinals, house finches, occasional blue jay, & 3 mated pairs of doves.

andddd i'm not feeding them bc i think they need to be fed. i feed them bc i like to look at & listen to them. they make me happy.
