Just wondering about this because I may have to live there next year and want to know if it is a good place to live. How is the noise level, cleanliness of the apartment, accommodations, etc

The reason I ask is because Preiss overbooked Redwolf Crossing (which is where I plan to live) but they have been calling people and asking them to move because one of the owners isn't going through them next year. So if there are no takers they may make one of the groups move or rent through the owner unless someone volunteers and I wanted to know if it would be a good idea to volunteer or take my chances with the owner

I lived there for a few years. I will tell you all the bad things:

1) Walking from u village to u woods after a party, a guy with a gun started yelling at us and shooting it in the air.
2) People from the office came into my room without knocking and there was a naked guy on top of me.
3) The ac didn't cool the front two rooms nearly as well as the back rooms. My room was always hot and my roomate would be freezing.
4) the people above us liked doing gymnastics and people would often vomit over the railing and it would land right in front of our door.
5) the room closest to the stairs is really noisey due to wooden stairs.
6) Your friend's cars will be towed so you should save a visitor spot for them.
7) they tried to tell me I didn't pay my full rent one time

The good:
1) I really liked the gym, pool, and tanning bed
2) pretty close to campus

Advice: live on the 3rd floor and get to know your neighbors. Its pretty similar to most apartments around ncsu, imo

Lived there 4 years in an owner unit. Parking is a bitch late at night and when Preiss invites wake tech fuck ups and ECU students over to drink and shatter bottles in our parking lot for their bs concert.

But seriously, i lived at usuitez one time, idk if that is preiss company or not but other than the fact that parking sucked it really was not that bad. People will bitch about getting screwed over but that doesn't happen unless you can't take care of shit.

do you like college style living? if so, uwoods will be fine. everyone that goes to state spends at least one night in uwoods. it's a loud, dirty, fantastic, shithole party place. Priess Co. sucks. have fun, don't get towed, and clean-cut, physically fit guys walking around with backpacks at midnight are not guys looking to party; they're ALE.

UWoods sucked. But, I wasn't miserable there. It is loud, parking is terrible, and we had mold in our cabinets that they refused to get rid of. Preiss Company is terrible. But, the rooms are a good size, private bathrooms, good closets, and it's cheap. So, you win some, you lose some.

That's probably for the best. I rented a UWoods-style dorm through a private owner and it worked out great. Granted, it comes down to having a good owner...

1) I got robbed at gunpoint outside my U Woods apartment in '07.

2) Visitor parking is a complete joke. The few V spots they actually have are always taken by people with parking passes in their window (aka the dude's who's GFs basically live with them but don't pay rent).

3) There will always be some Comm/Business major in your building that thinks its cool to have a Thursday night kegger and try to keep the entire building up until 3am.

U Glen was somewhat better, and much closer to campus

It was only better because it's two buildings instead of a shitload, so less of a chance of being robbed. It didn't stop some guy from trying to rob my neighbor at knifepoint though.

I lived there for 3 years (two different apartments). One was a first floor apartment and then moved to the 2nd floor for my last year there. 2nd floor sucked. There was hardly any water pressure.

Dude, they had a pool?! I lived on the older side of University Woods. Where was the pool?

There was a redneck in our complex named George that drove a big truck and would rev the engine at like 3am when he got back from drinking. They are very strict about parking and if you park in visitor parking overnight, your car will probably get broken into. Nerdchick was staying over with me one night and her car got broken into. Maybe it's gotten better with security.

Maintenance fixed things in an orderly fashion. For college apartments, it's not the worst out there (trust me, I lived at Westgrove Towers) but if you can stay away from Prei$$ Company apartments, you'll be better off

Oh and crazy homeless people live in the woods behind the apartments on Wolf Tech Lane.

This is my whole point, I know it looks like I am trolling from an outside perspective, but people will come in by the droves to say Preiss sucks or whatever and then refer to someone else's problem with preiss. Besides, Imagine the number of people who have ever lived there and have been on TWW, when you think down to the fact that theres only 3 threads of people bitching in 11 years it is probably not that bad. Furthermore, 90% of the reviews for anything online ever are people who are mad and want to vent. When you have a an average experience you typically don't think, let me go post on tww about how average my living situation was. People only give positive reviews in comparison to a negative one. idk i came to this realization after myself bitching about u suites and then realizing that they weren't really that bad- we were just ass hole college students.

tl;dr shit gets a bad rap and people are sheep. If you personally were wronged by preiss then speak up.

I was personally wronged by Preiss. I had to end my lease early because they refused to repair anything in the apartment (mold, heat didn't work, AC didn't work, faucet leaked constantly, dryer caught fire). They tried to say I never turned in my keys, and then tried to evict me a month later. I had the entire conversation with me turning in my keys recorded. After they dropped the eviction, they tried to sue me for breaking lease early. They weren't successful on that front either.

When I lived in a Preiss Company apartment every other month they would try to claim I didn't pay my rent. And this was always after they cashed the check. So I'd have to waste time going down to their office and showing them the cleared check from my bank account. It got to the point I started mailing them my check certified mail and they would still say they didn't receive my check despite being forced to sign for it They also never fixed shit in a timely manner, if they fixed it at all. And don't get me started on the cockroaches

Our downstairs neighbors also got their apartment broken into. They lost our rent checks on more than one occasion.

I suppose it's good if you want to live somewhere for cheap, have few valuable possessions, and want to party a lot.

I lived with Preiss for a year at UOaks. My roommates had this problem a few different times. I always took my rent check to the office and had them give me a receipt on the spot. Never had a problem when I did this.

As far as living there, it really wasn't that bad. UOaks is off of Western behind the Wendy's and the murder mart, so the location wasn't exactly ideal. It was really close to campus though. The place could get disgusting, but that was just as much a product of us as it was of how shitty the place was. They were always pretty quick to fix problems when we called. Our washer and dryer stopped working about halfway through the year and they came out and replaced it with a brand new one pretty quickly.

Like someone said above, there are positives and negatives. I enjoyed living there, but I didn't really go in expecting much more than cheap college housing. Also, there were always a ton of hot girls in the pool when the weather was nice

Just fyi preiss sold the pool and the apartments around it (u village is it?) about 3 months ago. My GF lives at Uwoods and last week they changed the code to the gym and pool so that the Uwoods residents can not access them anymore, even though they have access promised to them in the lease.

So, if you expect to live at Uwoods, do not expect a pool/gym

i lived there for a year. we were on the 3rd floor. our unit was privately owned, so i've never dealt with the preiss company. for that reason we weren't really allowed to use the facilities across the road. it was loud. and the place next door caught on fire at one point. it was cheap though.

I was the President of the University Woods Condominiums HOA for 2 years. I lived there, and was on the board from 2003-2010.
I currently deal with Preiss company, as they are handling the leasing of my unit.

I have been gone from the buildings for two years, so my knowledge is a little less than it was.
University Village owns the pool and work out facilities. Every owner pays a monthly fee for the UWoods residents to be able to use the amenities. Village was trying to raise that cost, and Woods was fighting it. They may have pulled the amenities to save the expense.

Parking is bad, but not unmanageable. If every resident has a car, and there is 100% occupancy, there are just enough spots total. That means no visitor spots. Preiss gives out visitor passes if you just go and ask for one. Or, put your car in a visitor spot, and move it when the friend gets there.

Some buildings are loud and obnoxious, and some are quiet. It is really luck of the draw on that one.

They stairs should have been fixed. We spent a lot of money to add more stringers in the stairs to stop the rattles and squeaks.

The maintenance tries, but there aren't enough of them to go around, and some tenants are dumb. They call because they clogged the toilet, the light burned out, they broke something, etc.

Many people don't have any problems, but those that do, have terrible times.

Now, on the owner side, Priess is bad.
They pay the power bills every other month. Then they charge the late fees to the owner. There have been instances of threats to cut of power for non-payment. They charge the owner any time maintenance is called to the property, and then decide whether or not to reimburse the cost.
They feel they are the biggest and baddest, so they don't care about anyone.

If you have more questions about UWoods, feel free to ask me.
