It would make me sincerely regret laughing at all those ridiculous people who call themselves "preppers" on shows like "doomsday Bunkers" and "doomsday preppers" as just a particularly paranoid kind of hoarder.

But the idea of a democratic body ruled by forum users does remind me of the Allthing in Dan Simmons' Hyperion books. It ended up being that the people who lived in their basements and spent all their time online ended up dominating that part of the political arena - simply because everyone else had better things to do than argue with professional forum trolls.
