A Rowan County school teacher was suspended for yelling at her students for questioning Obama. She told the classroom that it was illegal to slander the president and you could be arrested for it. She then implies that, on the contrary, it's ok to talk badly of Bush Jr, Romney and the Tea Party. The grammar and general disregard for proper english in a school setting by an educator should have been grounds enough to fire this woman.

I actually doubt that this was teacher was out to indoctrinate students. She seems much more like a woman at the end of her rope. I hope teachers know that it's important to take a break when need be. In my opinion, the consequences of continuing when you're not fit are much worse than they are for other professions. But cops/doctors/nurses/soldiers/teachers really shouldn't work if they're not right.

When I was in high school, we had a new bio teacher who was a really enthusiastic person to the point she gave us too much trust and freedom.

People abused this all the time, until about half-way through the semester, the class ended up mocking her so much (she had like 5 kids from 3 different husbands or something) she bursted into tears and ran out of the classroom and never came back to work.

This teacher ITT made a mistake and lost control of her classroom, but students can be huge dicks and it seems like they were definitely trying to push her over the edge.

When does it reach a point with teachers where they lose their job for not being qualified to teach or control a classroom? Its obvious from the dialogues in the video that she is as qualified to be a social studies instructor as she is at being a rocket scientist. Imagine a math teacher being recorded telling their student in a condescending way that 2+2=5. Also, getting suspended w/ pay sounds like a pretty sweet set-up. After this thing blows over, she'll get back to running out of control classrooms and providing misinformation to young minds.

^^^ She did imply that. She stated that it was ok to criticize the republican presidential candidates, but you could not criticize Obama because he's the president. That's when the boy responded by saying Obama is just a man like everyone else.

She specifically said that Bush was "shitty", but then yells at the boy for asking a question about Obama. That's hypocritical. She also said that there were lots of negative things that could be said about the tea party.It seems to me that she could have used the boys comments in a constructive way rather than impose her own political views on the class.


Aside from all of that, as a teacher, she really needs to clean her language up. I grew up just outside of Spencer, about 3 miles from this high school, my girlfriend went there, and it is absolutely the most poor and uneducated school in the system. A teacher speaking in slang, yelling and cussing and clapping out her syllables in classic black-woman fashion is no way to act as a role model for kids who may have no one else to look up to.

Part of the problem with this issue is that some of you believe that students should never be able to question the authority of the teacher. That's wrong on a number of different levels. How many times can you recall during your education when a teacher either disrespected you or misled you?

Just like Obama is a (hu)man, this teacher is human, too. Her opinion shouldn't be the only opinion presented during a discussion. In fact, it's probably a good idea for teachers to play devil's advocate, but never to involve their emotions to impose their own personal beliefs.

The real fun in this entire thing has not even started yet. The kid who the teacher insulted by saying that he hadn't been doing any work has no doubt already consulted with a lawyer. That's a clear violation of federal privacy laws. He'll certainly get $Rowan for having to be shamed in front of his classmates.
