Started about a year ago, when The Oatmeal http://theoatmeal.com posted about how Funnyjunk http://www.funnyjunk.com/ has been stealing his content and profiting

http://theoatmeal.com/blog/funnyjunk

Funnyjunk responded with a mass message asking users to harass The Oatmeal

http://theoatmeal.com/blog/funnyjunk2

The Oatmeal even says he doesn't intend to sue, he just wants his content removed from their site.

A year later Funnyjunk has a lawyer send him a letter and tell The Oatmeal to send them $20,000 for essentially hosting his content

http://theoatmeal.com/blog/funnyjunk_letter

To donate: http://www.indiegogo.com/bearlovegood

So far he has raised $149,358

This dumb fucknut decided to sue not only theoatmel guy, but also the website that helped collect the money AND the charities that the money is being collected for.

Good luck with that asshat.

"Operation BearLove Good, Cancer Bad ended early this morning with total funds raised at $220,024.00 -- almost exactly 11 times the original goal of $20k. IndieGoGo takes 4%, so that puts the total money going to charity at $211,223.04.

I've been trying very hard not to post about all the insane drama surrounding Carreon and his better half and instead focusing on the fundraiser. Now that it's ended, I wanted to address some specific questions about how I'm donating the funds.

When will you pay the charities?
Carreon has provided notice that he intends to ask the court for a restraining order which will stop the transfer of funds from Indiegogo. If we can't get that silly bullshit dismissed, the money could be held up for days, weeks or months. Assuming we can, I should have the money in about a week.

Once the money is moved, I still plan on withdrawing $211k in cash and taking a photo to send to Charles Carreon and FunnyJunk, along with the drawing of Funnyjunk's mother. After the photo is mailed I'll be sending checks to the charities. I'll also post receipts as well as public confirmations from both charities that they received every penny that was promised.

Is all the money going to the National Wildlife Federation and the American Cancer Society?
Yes. Previously I stated that because the amount raised was so much larger than expected I was going to divide the money into four charities instead of two, but unfortunately Carreon's lawsuit claims that I'm holding an "illicit fundraiser" and not donating money where I said I would. To avoid further litigation with him, I decided to split the money between the original two charities. If Carreon wanted a minor victory, he got one here.

I'll keep posting updates about the fundraiser here, so check back soon.

That's awesome. Also, Indiegogo has been making some good money on these last few fundraisers that have gone wild.

People who spend all day in front of a computer neglect the fact that most religious people and churches don't spend that much effort on the theology.

When they do, it's route repetition.

The bearded guy in the sky has little to do with many people's "religion".

or some people realize that being charitable with someone else's money is NOT charity. it's theft. Jesus didn't say "take this guy's money and give it to that other guy." He said "take YOUR money and give it to that guy."

From what I remember, Jesus literally said to hold a gun to peoples' head and force them to give to the poor. If they resist, you kill them or put them in jail. WWJD, son.

Actually, there have been many Christian anarchists in history who accurately noted that it's immoral to initiate the use of force. No decent, respectable moral system condones the initiation of force, whether it's done by some rogue individual or a government worker.

Anarchism (there should be rules, just no rulers) and atheism should go hand in hand, but they often don't. Many people willingly replace the mental shackles of religion with those of government, or vice versa. It's alarming how many self-identified "secularists" worship the state, believing that people with guns will somehow act altruistically and in the bests interests of the defenseless.

That would require that you use force to prevent people from purchasing and owning guns.

Looks like someone needs to send The Oatmeal Froshkiller's religion rant. Because nobody cares what they think, they should just stick to drawing cartoons about the rules of grammar.

no he didn't...guns weren't invented till at least 1000 years after Jesus' time. See

http://theoatmeal.com/comics/literally

And I'd bet $50 that Jesus never even said anything to the effect of "you should threaten people with death if they refuse to give to the poor."

hating on religion simply because it's religion is just as stupid as the religious hating on the different/non-religious simply because they don't harbor the same views

in any case, one thing i know for a fact is that every single one of you has it wrong...the christians, the muslims, the atheists, all of you...not a single human being is capable of comprehending whatever the truth actually is and as such, you (and i) are just hanging around, doing what makes us feel best about our existence

i'm sure some are closer to the truth than others, though! and, in the end, i suspect the vast majority of religions are, for all intents and purposes, the same thing

i'm sorry, pointing out to you that you're incapable of knowing the truth in its entirety is a contradiction in and of itself? i never said you can't know ANY truths

BUT GOOD TRY YOURSELF, FAGGOT

so, which one are you...one of the religious dumbasses or one of the atheist ones?
