i don't consider myself very vain at all, but i do admit to a couple of things:

- i have always been envious of those with darker or olive skin and since i tan well (it's quick and i rarely burn), i try to darken up as soon as it's warm outside

- i whiten my teeth once a year using those white strips and i use peroxide/baking soda toothpaste...my teeth are straight and white and i've never had braces, so i want to keep them looking pretty good

- i can't stand having "long" fingernails, so those get clipped when there's even a little white showing...i then file them down so they're smooth (but i don't buff...i'm not GAY, after all)

outside of those couple of things, my preference is to wear clothes that are cheap, durable, and comfortable (my favorite outfit is an NCSU gym shirt i never returned and some mesh shorts with chaco flips or sandals)...i get my hair cut short-ish so i don't have to do anything with it and i don't comb it when it gets long...i don't shave any more frequently than i have to (once it starts to get itchy)...i work out because it makes me feel good

what about y'all? are your clothes expensive and well cut? if you're a woman or tranny, are you one of those that can't leave the house without makeup?

I'm good looking, have above average intelligence, and in good physical shape.

Maybe a 5 on a scale of 1 to 10?

Hair: I hate sitting in a salon and hate paying for salon services... Last year, I went to a salon once to get my hair cut/colored/etc. Otherwise, I get my hair cut/color/keratin for free once a year by working a hair show. And I get nice, free hair products that last the entire year. Ponytail style most days... blowout/straightener for parties/clubs on weekends.

Makeup: I don't wear any makeup most days. I'll wear mascara, eyeshadow and eyeliner if I'm going out to a party or a club on the weekend. Maybe lip gloss. Nothing on my skin. Grosses me out.

Clothing: LOVE TJ Maxx and Marshalls... prob go there too often, but I rarely buy anything. My only designer purse is a Dooney & Bourke bag that I got for 50 cents at a yard sale. I wear flip flops and jeans to work every day. For a nightclub, I tend to stick with a little black dress.


Indulgences
I guess my major indulgences are the gym (have a membership to Gold's and I go daily), sleep (I look exhausted if I skimp on sleep) and Brazilian waxes, which just make me happy.

I'm pretty particular about my hair. I used to go to Mitchell's but the girl I used to have cut my hair moved. My hair just kinda has a life of it's own so I have to take care of it. I go in and out of spurts of working out and sometimes tan at the pool in the summer.

I don't think I know any really vain people that are at the end of the day good people (not saying I am). If you spend a significant amout of time critiquing the way other people look in facebook pictures then you are probably a horrible person.

Forgot indulgences...

Food and drink. I spend way too much money going out to nice dinners and even when I grocery shop. We cook pretty nice dishes that call for a lot of nice ingredients. That's pretty much it.

My clothes are mid-priced...but I still wear a bunch of cheap old t-shirts that I have been wearing for years. I purchase most of my nicer clothes on sale or at outlets. Still holding off on the overhaul of my work wardrobe. Hanging on to a few decent suits...but I need to step it up.

I don't think I have any vain indulgences...because I don't necessarily enjoy working out or manscaping.

Oh...the money and time thing. I've quit the gym and now I do quick, crossfit type workouts. So I've lessened my expenses and time on that as well. But I actually think it's worked out better for me...so maybe those ended up being vain decisions.

Well, there are quite a few definitions of vain, one being excessively proud of one's own appearance, qualities or achievements. But it can also mean being concerned about one's appearance, etc. I think most are using it as concern, rather than pride.

Point is, how can one declare them self 'vain', ie having or showing an excessively high opinion of one's appearance, abilities, or worth, and be content with a large protrusion of unsightly flesh from their midsections?
