Wife has one. Fighting insurance right now because they said they would cover it, then received bill for $500.

I can't really tell that much difference but this was after she gave birth so it had been while and other things had changed too. Would have been easier to tell if it was back to back, lol.

She has been thinking about getting one. I wanted to know how it would affect me being able to have sex with her. Plus, depending on the side effects, I'd be willing to pay for it if insurance doesn't.

I'm a fan. Nuva rings get suck on your penis if you go too hard and you ALWAYS feel it. IUDs come with no period-and you hardly ever feel the string. Mis-informed nay-Sayers ITT.

it depends on which type you choose. paragaurd is a copper one, which can cause heavier periods. mirena is a hormonal one, which can decrease or eliminate periods.

i had horrible luck with the nuvaring. i could feel it, he could feel it, it was a no go (i have a tilted uterus though so that probably was the problem). if you're worried about a tiny string, using a much larger diameter floppy ring isn't really the direction you want to be heading imo.

i'll be signing up for mirena as soon as they'll let me after this baby is out

^^ True for me too. I hated the Nuvaring in terms of sex. You can take it out, but that sucks. Since I got Mirena 2+ years ago I've had two periods. And I've never been worried I was pregnant.

I love my IUD. Nothing to remember for five years. No period. No ill side effects. No fail rate once in place . Nothing to put in or take out or put on. I went back and had my strings cut short and tucked back so my husband rarely notices them during sex. And my fertility returned immediately once I had it removed. It's the best thing ever! I have two kids and I probably won't have anymore, but I still went with the Mirena again because it was so awesome. I will never touch another birth control pill.

It would be remarkable to get pregnant with an IUD because it functions as a hormonal and
mechanical preventative. It would not be a viable pregnancy. As long as the iud is not expelled and if that is going to happen it happens early on, you can trust that you're not pregnant. I've only taken a pregnancy test once with my iud and that was early on with my first one after freaking out b ecause we couldn't find the strings (they had gotten tucked back up into my cervix).

Wife just got her 2nd one last month. We waited until the check up to make sure everything was good to go (in place and no complications) before we started doing it again, but it was just fine like the first one. I think he clipped the strings better this time because I have not felt it any on the new one, buteven then I only occasionally felt the string with the previous Mirena. Otherwise she likes it for everything BB previously mentioned. Never has a period. Nothing to remember. Extremely low chance of pregnancy. Etc.

I've been thinking about getting an IUD, but my sister had a hard time with it, caused lots of cramping and then she started to hemorrhage and had to get it taken out. I think she's just a pussy though and I doubt I'd have the same problem she did


On a side note, I've been on the nuvaring for years and years now, and I know I've said this before in the ladies thread, but I really freaking looooooooove it. Every woman is different and I have a deviated uterus but through the years I've never had a problem. It's never been stuck on a penis but it has come out once during sex but it's been awesome other than that one time 4 and a half years ago.

No. With Mirena, most - not all - women will have little or no regular period. With the Paraguard, most women will experience a heavier period.

^I don't know how it is if you have not had a kid, but Jess said the first time not long after having number 2 was no big deal. Now 5 years later after having it removed and a new one put in, she was uncomfortable for a couple days. She did not say it was painful, just felt strange. It settled down after a few days.

And as to the worrying thing, I have not ever had to pull out in over 5 years. After all that time, never once have we had even a scare. And one or both of us are extremely fertile, because without BC it literally takes us 1-2 times and she is pregnant. When she got off the patch when we wanted to have our second kid, she was told it could take a couple months for her to become fertile. She was pregnant like 2 weeks after she took the last patch off. First one took no time either. So yea I think without Mirena we would have had 3 already. Hundreds of times in 5 years and no scares or anything.

With my first IUD, it was easy breezy. It was 6 weeks after my Csection and I had no problems at all. I felt a little crampy, like I was on my period, but that was hit. The second IUD, it was blindingly painful. Like, come up off of the table and pass out painful. I was in so much pain that my doctor insisted on an ultrasound to make sure things were ok. Everything was fine, she mentioned something about air in my uterus and that I hadn't been dilated at all this time even though I'd just had a second kid. The pain faded by the time she allowed me to leave the office. I was definitely crampy for a few days.

And FYI, my doctor didn't give me any medication to take before hand. Probably because I'd just had a baby each time and was already soaked with mommy hormones. My friend (who has an 8 year old) just had her first Mirena inserted a few weeks ago. Her doctor gave her all kinds of stuff to do before hand to help dilate her cervix and make insertion easier. She just took the one day off of work because she wasn't sure how crampy she'd feel afterwards.

Insurance covered some of mine- but I still had to pay $500.
I feel like it was overpriced but I guess it is cheaper than a monthly copay for another form since it lasts 5 years and I don't have to worry about it.
It was not comfortable at all when they put it in and it made me think about how it is going to be when they take it out in a few years... at that point I may just opt for a tubal ligation.
