I'm going with a big group of friends to work on a film project on lady nerds and network for promotional modeling stuff. Plus I'm a huge scifi/game dork that is really into costuming, so I'm pretty stoked about being surrounded by like minded individuals for a weekend.

Megan and I are going!

Staying at the Marriott Marquis. It is our 2nd time. We went back in 2009 and had a blast.

We took our 21 month old which was a challenge, but still got to enjoy the guests, crowd watching, DragonCon night at the Georgia Aquarium, and the parade.

This time we are kid free.

I admit, I made fun of this shit for years, and I would still never actually pay to go, but its awesome to do down to the hotels and just people watch (lots of weirdos, lots of sluts) and hop around to all the parties and shit. The majority of the people attending arent exactly socialites the other 51 weekends of the year so they tend to go apeshit their one weekend.

I cant tell you how many times I've had my bat signal polished off by what I hope was a female underneath all the nerd gear, IF you know what I mean

I miss dragon con

But buying a house and buying stuffs for the new baby take priority over the wife and I going on a vacation.

I went to con and staffed for 5 years, 2006-2010
Wife came with me in 2010, all of 3 months after we got married and about 4 weeks after I finnaly let my doctor put me on blood pressure meds
2011 I was moving into a new house, so no con for the wife and I
this year we have a ... almost 5 month old keeping me running around like a chicken with no head, plus the 8 going on 9 year old to help keep me on my toes

Be aware, con can be fun. It can be entertaining, it can be exhausting.

I staffed 70+ hours per con the years I was there
When you arrive on thursday at noon, and leave monday at 6 pm, thats only 120 hours of time at con
Does not leave mu7ch time for sleep when you figure in time to go see stuff, party, drink, etc.

blood pressure medication in many cases, including mine, has unusual and unhappy interactions with alcohol, thus it put a significant damper on that years fun. When a doctor tells you limit caffeine, no alcohol, take these pills on this schedule and get regular sleep every night, it makes con less fun.

just be aware that after 8-10 pm the con is considered by most to be in 'after dark, adults only' mode untill breakfast the next morning. This is when most of the concerts, parties, etc kick off. These range from themed parties, aka the star trek or star wars themed events, or a rave, to the Mad Scientist's ball with Arc attack playing tesla coils as instruments, to small room parties with no signs that can boggle the mind.

In the public areas, public=not in a room with id checked at the door, you are not supposed to have any real nudity, as doing so will get you arrested per Georgia law. Once you pass the bouncer? anything might be seen. You CAN spend con being bored, but not for lack of opportunity.
