There's no doubt that pro boxing has a huge problem, but the product in the ring, for the most part, isn't it. There's no doubt that the quality of professional boxing has declined due to declining interest in amateur boxing coupled with the rise in popularity of other sports and the birth of MMA. Another factor is the way that amateur boxing has been destroyed by olympic scoring over the last 24 years.

Olympic boxing isn't really boxing. It's incredibly hard to take a combat sport and make it a points contest. You can't make a jab worth the same as a solidly landed hook and maintain legitimacy. Point scoring doesn't work

The Roy Jones Jr. robbery is, IMO, the worst moment in olympic history outside of Munich. Thankfully this is the last olympics that will have this stupid scoring system. Hopefully this will lead to a rebirth in amateur boxing and as a result an improvement in professional boxing down the line.
