My special ladyfriend and I are planning on having a small (<50 people) wedding/reception at a sizeable beach house next year. I've looked alot at the OBX, however, I recently saw that Emerald Isle has some solid houses at a good price with cheap event fees.
Outside of Wrightsville/Carolina/Kure Beach and the OBX, I haven't gone to any other beaches in NC.
Would Emerald Isle be good for a wedding (quiet, not too many people, etc.)? What other beaches would you suggest I take a look at? 8/10/2012 12:46:33 PM |

i was in a wedding at Bald Head Island a few years ago. The couple rented a beach house and had 35 people in attendance. It was a lot of fun. 8/10/2012 12:59:49 PM |

Yes this is where we did our wedding. It was A++. But really I don't think you could go wrong with any of the beaches around here, especially if you're doing it off-season or mid-season.8/10/2012 4:52:01 PM |

Bald head island, Oak island, and if you're not opposed to SC, Kiawah Island. 8/10/2012 4:52:53 PM |

Bald Head is definitely nice. Pricey, but nice. They have a beautiful little chapel if that's your thing, or you could get married on the beach of course. Oak Island could be a good choice too. Definitely less crowded than many of the other beaches in the area. My cousin is getting married in Corolla next year and is renting a good-sized house for a lot of the family to stay in, though the actual wedding/reception is not going to be at the house (as they are having 100+ people).
My fiancee and I are doing something similar, but instead of the beach house, we've procured a small B&B in Kill Devil Hills as the venue. We'll have a slightly bigger crowd, 60-ish, but still below what they consider their max capacity for a wedding. And they are right across the street from the beach so it's extremely convenient. 8/11/2012 9:23:11 PM |

Thirded. I've been going to Topsail for family trips for the past 7 years. Prior to Topsail my family took summer trips to Emerald Isle, Ocean Isle, and a lot of the surrounding areas. If you want something quiet and friendly, Topsail is unmatched.8/13/2012 12:04:41 PM |

Having just gotten back from a few days at a buddy's house in Topsail Beach, I would wholeheartedly recommend that over any of the other NC beaches I've been to. There are some very nice houses down there and it's probably the best combination of beautiful beach and lack of crowd (very quiet and laid back) I've ever seen on the east coast. I'm no beach guru but I can't imagine you'd find a better place without driving for a while. 8/13/2012 5:11:56 PM |

Corolla is the shit and would be my top choice for sure but the drive is 4.5 hours from Raleigh. Kure/Carolina - I wouldn't unless convenience to Raleigh is a factor and my family actually has a nice house on Kure, still not a huge fan. Oak Island (Caswell Beach) is beautiful and a good go-between. You may even be able to afford a big taxi to Wilmington from there for an after party type thing.
