People act like these women were in Tiananmen Square or something. They were obviously guilty of "hooliganism motivated by religious hatred", you can't go into a church and start wrecking stuff and having a rock concert, not in any country. They should enjoy their time in prison and be grateful for all the attention they received.

Did they wreck stuff? I wasn't aware of that. Stories I've read (and I admit, I haven't kept up a lot) just say they performed a mock "punk prayer". I'm not saying they didn't deserve to be punished, but you think that it's justified that they were held w/o trial for five months, and then sentenced to two years in prison? "Religious hatred" shouldn't be a crime. I certainly hope the same wouldn't happen in America.

There's a video if you want to watch it, I don't know if anything ended up broken, but it certainly looks like it could have been. Either way, I'll save my sympathy for people in prison who never commited crimes, rather than those who's sentences are a year or two too harsh. Religious hatred isn't a crime here or in Russia, but going into a church with worshippers in it and trying to have a concert full of obscenities is going to get you arrested in pretty much any country that I know of.

Well, sure, trespassing is a thing. But, in civilized countries, private property isn't defended as zealously as this. Misdemeanor at most. Probably 60 days in jail. Most likely it would have been negotiated down to time-served.
