It sounds to me she burnt up her brakes instead of killing the power and then applying them.

I guess it would not shift in to neutral, but she could have done that and just let the engine blow up and coasted to a stop too.

I think she had no idea what she was doing.

My dad has a pickup truck with a suicidal cruise control on it, when you press the brake the cruise control does not disengage, so when you press the brake it stomps the gas because it thinks its slowing down and needs to speed up.

Only way out of it is to turn the cruise control off at the switch which is this rickity ass old slide switch on the turn signal.

I do not use the cruise control on that truck.

Who actually USES cruise control on any regular basis?

I sure as hell dont. There's too many stupid ass drivers out there for me to not be in total control of my car at all times.

Really? I use cruise control daily. Some mornings, if traffic is right on 40, I'll go the full 30 miles without adjusting it.

Something similar happened to me when I was 17 and hadn't had my license all that long. I wasn't in cruise but the accelerator stuck on my mom's old Pontiac when I was driving it. Didn't occur to me to shift into neutral since I was a dumb kid (who had never driven a manual) so I stood on the brakes, turned onto a side street and threw it into park still moving about 10 MPH and with the revs still climbing. I was *very* lucky I didn't destroy the transmission in doing so.

It was fine when I turned it back on, and never did that again in the 5 more years we had that car. Just decided to be a dick that one time.

my car has done this like 4-5 times now, always when it is well below freezing. at least a couple of times I was driving on the highway and then, whoo, I'm going 90 without trying. always super fun to stop the car. I kept taking it to the garage, even ordered them to change the cable and they said there was nothing wrong with the old one. it finally just recently got recalled because of some plastic flange. If it happens again, I'm selling it

I use mine if I am not in traffic. Do not have to use it, but its nice on open road, otherwise I speed too much.
