OK, I got it. The GOP can legitimately point out that Obama follows a religion created in the Middle East.

Meanwhile, Romney can point out that his religion was made in America.

Tell me, is Romney's campaign capable of such doublethink? I say yes.

What are you having trouble with?

Romney's faith is a big landmine for him. So why not go on the offensive?

And what is more suspicious than Obama taking cues from a religion exported from the Middle East? And what's more patriotic than Romney sticking to American made goods and ideas? The Garden of Eden being in Missouri? Patriotic as fuck.

I haven't seen anyone saying this though.

I'm assuming you're being facetious with this thread, but i'm not sure...

Er... no. I invented a new strategy. I think Romney should adopt it.

oh i see...

I don't think Romney would do this, because anything he does that shines any light on his religion will hurt him.

He can't attack Obama even subtly on religion because of this. The democrats are in a tight spot to in attacking romney for being a mormon because Harry Reid is also a mormon.

Overall the lack of being able to bring up religion helps Obama just because it deflates a lot of the "he's a muslim!" attacks.

I would imagine the typical Christian hates Mormons too.

The Christians you're thinking of hate Catholics too.

Just saying it might not be as big a deal as you think.

My mom, who is a somewhat typical simple southern baptist, asked my brother why he didn't care for Romney.
My brother catered to her simpleness and said "Well, for one, he's Mormon."
My mother resopnded "Well, at least he has some kind of religion! (as opposed to BO)"
I was kinda surprised by that.
But honestly, I don't think she know much at all about the Mormon religion.

There was a poll conducted that showed more people would vote for a gay or Muslim presidential candidate than an atheist one.

We're talking about Mormonism, which is actually an American religion. What point were you trying to make?

^^To a certain extent, yes (that's what I meant by doublethink). However, the American parts seem more significant than anything that came out of the middle east:

Quote :
"Much of the Mormon belief system is oriented geographically around the North and South American continents. Mormons believe the people of the Book of Mormon lived in the western hemisphere, that Christ appeared in the western hemisphere after his death and resurrection, that the true faith was restored in upstate New York by Joseph Smith, and that the Garden of Eden was in Missouri and that at Christ's Second Coming, all of the world will see him. For this and other reasons, including a belief by many Mormons in American exceptionalism, Molly Worthen speculates that this may be why Leo Tolstoy described Mormonism as the "quintessential 'American religion'"."
