start it up! Castro just topped Obama's 04 speech. Rubio is a hot shot but had a shitty speech last week. Typical. I'm guessing the latino voters will increase significantly by 2016 and these guys will dominate for sure.

Cuz we all know great speakers are always great leaders.
Its easy to say what everyone wants to hear.
I heard a lot of fluff there.

Julian Castro is the real deal and quite possibly one of five things in San Antonio that isn't extremely shitty.

Lets talk about how San Antonio* is a terrible city.

1) Cats and dogs everywhere. Everywhere. EVERYWHERE.
2) Flooding whenever it even hints of rain.
3) Downtown that only consists of the Riverwalk and nothing else.
4) 99.5% of the restaurants in SA manage to be exceedingly mediocre. The mexican food isn't actually mexican food. Its tacos and refried beans ala Tex Mex.
5) Everything around downtown is a strip mall. Seriously. Imagine an entire city designed after Capital Blvd. Everything around downtown also happens to be closed or in a state of decay.
6) Hope you like driving. Conversely, I hope you like paying for parking 'downtown.'
7) What the fuck is with these God damn cats.
8) 99.5% of the human population is asymmetrical, though this happens to be true for nearly every Texan city not named Austin.
9) The 'tech hub' is just Rackspace.
10) Can't leave anything in your car or it will get stolen.

Surprisingly though, SA has a pretty vibrant Art scene and apparently the biggest intelligence network outside of NoVa. The cost of living is also low and I actually really like Hill country. Maybe I'm a redneck?

There are pretty big plans to renovate downtown with Graham Weston owning x acres of land around the Weston Centre that he's planning to revitalize. When/If that happens I think the city will turn around really well.

Also, Geekdom rocks.

most American cities are the same crap... just because San Antonio has a little culture everyone wants to hate on it...

1) Yeah there are a few stray dogs
2) it floods, but it's easier to deal with than hurricanes, earthquakes, and tornadoes
3) Most downtowns in America dont have any culture
4) Food is mediocre everywhere unless you pay $$$$
5) Everything around downtown is a strip mall everywhere in America. There is Seaworld, Six Flags, Natural Bridge Caverns and other things to do
6) You have to drive everywhere in most cities unless you like living in expensive NY, DC, SF
7) cats everywhere because they are feral...
8) yeah, culturally and economically diverse population, it's awesome.
9) not every city needs a tech hub.
10) yeah, dont leave stuff worth anything in a car....

Cost of living is dirt cheap and it's nice to take home a six figure salary and not feel poor like you would in the Northeast or West Coast or anywhere else for that matter.

There's a difference between a downtown not having any culture and the fact that no one local over the age of 18 wants to go downtown on a Friday night.

San Antonio is the latter. Hopefully it'll change.

so why don't people start killing all the stray cats and dogs. Don't Texans have a lot of guns?

Presumably because you're not allowed to just haul off and shoot things in public.

On paper, you'd think it'd just be like a bunch of wild deer running around, but the dogs (in particular) run around in packs and hang out outside of restaurants. I don't want to speak for Whataburger, but I think they'd frown on having someone empty a clip.

And I don't say that because someone would be shooting wrecklessly, I say that because there are that many strays.

Quote :
"With the Democratic National Convention in full swing, a number of party leaders are attempting to boost President Barack Obama's re-election effort by asserting that 4.5 million new jobs have been created during his term.

Obama himself has recently claimed more job growth in the past 27 months than President George W. Bush created "during the entire seven years before this crisis."

"Despite incredible odds and united Republican opposition, our president took action, and now we've seen 4.5 million new jobs," San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro said in his keynote address at the DNC on Tuesday night.

That statistic was echoed by virtually all of Tuesday night's speakers, including first lady Michelle Obama, Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick and Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, who previously served as Obama's chief of staff.

However, CNN fact-checked that claim and found it to be "not the whole picture." Instead, CNN found that there has been a net increase of just 300,000 nonfarm payroll jobs since Obama took office. And if you count government jobs, there are actually 400,000 fewer people working today than in January 2009.[/b]"

Here's the rest of your article!

http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/ticket/fact-check-4-5-million-jobs-created-under-175621036--election.html

Quote :
"When Democrats use the 4.5 million jobs number, they're referring to jobs created after the economy bottomed out in January 2010, one year after Obama took office. That time frame excludes the worst job losses, which took place in 2009, and which many Democrats argue were the result of Bush policies.

CNN concludes: "The figure of 4.5 million jobs is accurate if you look at the most favorable period and category for the administration. But overall, there are still fewer people working now than when Obama took office at the height of the recession."

Still, a historical analysis of job growth percentages shows that Obama still fares better than some recent presidents. As of July, Obama is averaging +0.84 percent annual job growth in his term. That places him ahead of Bush, who saw +0.51 percent growth in his first term and -0.84 percent in his second term. Obama is also tracking better than George H.W. Bush, who presided over +0.69 percent growth during his one term in the White House."

Rubio is a piece of shit, self-hating Latino that prolly ignores the fact that republicans are racist by telling himself in the mirror every morning that "he has a lot of rich friends and fuck all of those spics that didn't make it".

except that I never called him a spic. And you're missing the biggest fallacy here: How can you possibly ignore the fact that republicans want to pass legislation that would have directly hit people like his parents, or even himself? It is just crazy, absolutely delusional nonsense that can only be justified by greed and obsession with money. Which is what I said ever so eloquently in my quote.

^you're absolutely right. how foolish of me. the only possible way anyone other than a white person could be republican is if they are an uncle tom, self-loathing, or a sellout sycophant. you're making an awesome case for your party.

I mean, for blacks and latinos yes. That is how bad your party is.

I know plenty of conservative, capitalistic corporate-america-loving black dudes and chicks that would never for a second vote for a republican because of that very fact.

You are the one going over the top and calling me a racist because of my close to home and very accurate accusations.

Just think about it: If you are black or latino, and care about your own cultural circle, how could you possibly be alright with voting republican?

For one, the "black woman on welfare" is bringing this country down to most conservatives, and they are all for taking away immigrant rights. So please, mister righteous man, explain it to me?

first of all, you don't know shit about "my" party. i'm a registered independent.

secondly, i didn't accuse you of being racist, per se, but was pointing out your tiresome pattern of bringing up race every chance you get. clearly you support equal rights for all races, which i can dig, but do you realize how fucking obnoxious you sound accusing millions of people of being racist just because they identify as republicans? how much more holier-than-thou can you get?

Not holier-than-thou. I am just stating that there may be some denial going on fueled by the gop "rich by association" clause. That is all.

Let me leave you with this last little nugget here: Blacks make up ~ 10% of the population, but they make up at least 50% of the prison population. Now, how in the hell can you say that race is still not an issue? I think that in recent years it has taken a bit of a back seat to women's and gay rights, which also have their own just causes.

thus spake Ron Paul

Let's just keep this going:

Lohan and RDJ got loads of chances with the criminal system.

So, how many chances did t.i., Lil Wayne and Plaxico Burress get?

And those are celebs.

Now conspiracy theory would be saying that the system is designed that way to keep the minorities from voting.

Lohan and RDJ have/had substance abuse problems

Plaxico shot himself in the leg cut and dry case - firearm

Lil Wayne arrested on gun charges

T.I. federal weapons charges

Those three involved firearms.

You probably would have been better served bringing up Phil Spector, but I would counter with OJ.

I would say crime happens because of socio-economic issues more than anything. Majority of the minority criminals come from poor sections of town.

That's my point. White people commit white people crimes and they get off easy.
