are there any good oktoberfests around raleigh/durham/CH? i've never been to one here, just in the midwest where there's a higher population of germans

there's one at lafayette village this coming saturday: http://www.lafayettevillageraleigh.com/oktoberfest/

beer vendors: Triangle, Duck Rabbit, Carolina Brewery, Aviator, Lonerider, Carolina Brewing Co., & Natty Green’s

i've never heard of lafayette village, but it appears to be just off 540 on falls of neuse rd in north raleigh

anywhere else?

also, boobies

Last year at the World Beer Fest in Durham there were plenty of women acting like it was Oktoberfest.

well, yeah...women love an excuse to dress slutty

one day i'll actually make it to munich, but until then i was hoping for something a bit more "real" oktoberfest-y than just girls showing cleavage and beer (but maybe that's the best i'll get)

haha no, charlotte's is always in late september.

it's a good event for the beer, but it's not really a traditional oktoberfest if that is what you are looking for.

While not in RDU, this looks pretty sweet:

http://www.helenga.org/events/41st-annual-oktoberfest

Quote :
"Formerly a logging town that was in decline, the city resurrected itself by becoming a replica of a Bavarian alpine town, in the Appalachians instead of the Alps. This design is mandated through zoning first adopted in 1969, so that the classic south-German style is present on every building, even for the small number of national franchisees present (such as Huddle House). Because of this, tourism is the main industry in Helen, catering mostly to weekend visitors from the Atlanta area. Helen is extremely crowded in late October, when autumn leaves typically peak. It also hosts its own Oktoberfest during September, October and November. There are many events and festivals throughout the year. One of the most well-known is the annual hot-air balloon race, which is held the first weekend in June each year."

I used to go to a summer camp near there and would always visit Helen. Pretty cool place.

^ so, is it more than something like the world beer festival in moore square every year? is it more cultural (ie. german dress, music, food, etc)?

i assume there's plenty of different beers to drink?

^ I would imagine much more towards the latter, while most things around here would be closer to the former.

There are Youtube videos that might give you a taste...

I'm throwing an Oktoberfest party but it will be after actual Oktoberfest (in October - go figure)

you don't want to listen to polka - you want to listen to schlager music!

Just got back from lunch at Guglhupf and they had some signs up about some sort of Oktoberfest they're doing on the 29th. It's not showing up on their website but you could call them and ask about it: 919.401.2600. I just remembered the sign saying something about beer, brats, and live music.
