It's a state where your nerves essentially give out (and thus your muscles) during a state of intense emotion like laughing, crying, etc. That's why many people with narcolepsy pass out - but they aren't falling asleep. About 30% don't have cataplexy, so I fall into that category. But I have the hallucinations, so yay.
