spilled about 1/2 of one of those gatorade things of water in my car.....at least it wasn't the one filled with gatorade
tried to dry everything out. after a while i just said screw it, cutting out the carpet (couldn't easily remove to dry out-- it ain't gonna dry out anyway)
well, so do I have a dealer order the replacement?? can't find any part online for it...2012 focus 5 door. Seems like anyone whose done this before should be able to assist.
Thanks--- and yes I got all the water out. I'll deal with the road noise for a while. Sigh live and learn 9/23/2012 7:40:42 PM |

just vacuum, towels, and put some desiccant packs in your car. I wouldn't go replacing carpet until you try and fail to get the water out and it smells like mildew, give it some time and let the desiccant work. Should be clear this week, leave your windows cracked and run the AC when driving to help dry it out. 9/23/2012 7:46:33 PM |

i can still wring water out of the carpet i removed. I was more afraid of standing water in the crevices under the carpet than the actual carpet the more I looked. Carpet is replaceable. I had to cut it out as I am not comfortable with removing my seats w/sensors.
I just can't find any info on my car online regarding replacement. 9/23/2012 8:29:17 PM |

you're gonna have to get it from a dealer and it's gonna be expensive 9/23/2012 8:34:01 PM |

I wish you had of gotten opinions here first before you cut your carpet up. My shop vac could have pulled most of it out and fans inside your car overnight would dry most of it out.
I'd bet new carpet will be extremely expensive. My carpet set for my Tundra was like $850 new, so I just dealt with my current carpet. 9/23/2012 10:42:39 PM |

Just lock this thread now. Any attempt at reasoning with someone who decided the best course of action was to cut out the carpet in their brand new car because it got wet is pretty much pointless. 9/24/2012 12:07:26 AM |

no, he said "cutting" and it was ambiguous. I made the mistake of assuming that no one would go cutting up their late model vehicles carpet because of spilled water without first checking to see that new carpet is expensive and a pain to install.

Then I guess you're going to pay someone to install new carpet, because you'll have to remove a lot of stuff to install new carpet...9/24/2012 12:29:43 PM |

to remove a seat that has sensors in it you usually just...unclip the wiring harness.

That's the easy part, the fun part is finding out that a car seat weighs a lot more than you expect and you have to get it through a door that doesn't open as far as you want 9/24/2012 12:34:05 PM |

the mixture of the simple-past and present-continuous tenses when the past-perfect continuous or past perfect should have been use to indicate that cutting out happened in the past (or happened in the past and was continuing) 9/26/2012 9:10:20 AM |
