Well, I do believe in the gold standard with 2 conditions:

1) We govern who controls the quantity of the money. No single entity can control more than 50% of the quantity of gold. Including the government. The obvious reason is because he who controls 51% of the market, owns the market.

2) We abolish government borrowing and end fractional reserve lending. If the government can't borrow, it will be forced to spend only the money it has in its bank account. Therefore, they'd be forced to raise or lower taxes every time they needed more money. Right now, they can spend whatever amount of money they want without raising taxes. The only way to spend money without having money is by printing it. Every dollar they print, the value of the dollar goes down.
The perk about gold is they can't print gold.
