How is it almost halfway through October and no one has made this thread yet? Anyone care to share some news or voting guides to NC elections?

After the GOP gerrymandering, splitting more precincts than ever before, not even someone as optimistically pro-Democrat as me has any hope for this election at the state level. The State House & Senate are going to stay in GOP control, they are going to pick up the Governor's mansion, the US Congress is going from 7D-6R to 10R-3D, and women are going to become an extreme minority in the General Assembly. It's a foregone conclusion that the party of amendment 1 and fracking is going to do really well with these maps is why I think it has received so little discussion. What's the point?

A better idea might be discussion about judicial elections in the Triangle.

(I mean you people do have shitty judicial elections like Ohio does, right?)

The people most qualified to vote for judges are no longer allowed to vote.

Glad the Republicans created gerrymandering. I'll remind Mel Watt about it when he cruises into his third decade in US House.

Maybe Mel Watt wouldn't be in office anymore if his constituents would actually grow a pair and vote him out for it, instead of just playing the "yeah well the other guys do it too!" card.

The level of packing Democrats into the 3 remaining Democratic districts, so as to make the ones around them more conservative, makes that impossible for at least a decade.

You should start a violent revolution then.

Just because the statewide elections are a foregone conclusion doesn't mean there aren't upsides to the new maps. While I think it's a little silly for Durham and coastal Elizabeth City to share a district now, or Burlington and Fayetteville to share a district now, the remaining Dems having such safe seats makes it so that their positions can be super liberal for the next decade. It also makes it that so it's safe to retire and be replaced by strong Dems without having to worry about a challenge from the likes of a BJ Lawson. The triangle area if anything will only get more liberal. Also, NCSU is now in the heart of the 4th district.

Good luck getting rid of Mel Watt's district without overturning or sustantially revising the voting rights act.

The resulting safe districts yield such moderate and responsible representatives as Virginia Foxx.

Bump for the gubernatorial debate from the other night.

The most entertaining thing was the feed that they had across the bottom of the screen that had what people were posting on twitter about the debates.

No reason not to keep all the current state executives the same. I don't care who you are, John Tedesco is a fucking bag of tools. And I'm pretty sure the guy listed as running against Janet Cowell is actually homeless.

please please PLEASE get Renee Ellmers out of office. I don't even care who is running against her. Just please stop letting bigoted idiots represent my home state.

I posted this 2 years ago but my opinion of her has not changed.

We have been receiving complaints at the Wake Co BOE about this political mailer--there are a lot of uninformed angry people that for some reason think we have sent this out, but we most definitely have nothing to do with this mailer. It is all public information. I can't even begin to tell you how much misinformation about elections is propagated by the political parties and their affiliate organizations and the media that we get blamed for, but with all the noise out there I understand how a voter can be confused if they don't keep up with elections 24/7 or aren't careful with their informational sources.

This is just like spokeo.com. It is all strictly public information that anyone can view but when someone takes the effort to aggregate it all and make it easily accessible and dispensable without your knowledge it becomes creepy nonetheless. I hope the public backlash is directed appropriately and at the right people.

Attention residents of District 2: you have 2 veterans to choose from, let one of them vote on foreign policy as opposed to an idiot.

She won by less than 1% of the vote last time around.

Unfortunately with the redrawn maps I don't think she can lose.
