After the perception of Romney having a big win last time, I suppose he's the favorite this time too. Starts at 9pm. I'm looking forward to the variety of questions that could come up with this style of the audience asking the questions.

What would it take for you to see this debate as an Obama win or a Romney win?

i wouldn't say that romney is the favorite, per se, but the pressure is definitely on obama.

pretty off-topic, but my beef with the debates is that they are too late. there are too few undecided voters left. they should do the conventions earlier, do one debate soon after that, one a few weeks before the election, and one somewhere in the middle.

Yeah, they do come pretty late in the game. It's hard to understand how people are still undecided, especially with these candidates who have both been running for so many years.

What about undecided who can't decide between one of the candidates and third party

Unfortunately these debates wont help much with that. I wish they would include 3rd parties in these debates.

I'd love to see a Gary Johnson vs Jill Stein debate. I hope they'll do their own, I think a lot of people would tune in online. I think it speaks to the relative strength of their campaigns though that many people at least know who Gary Johnson is and what party he's with, but for Jill it requires a party label in parentheses. That said, I support more 3rd party inclusion, and have signed petitions to help get the Greens on ballot.

Looks like there wont be official opening or closing remarks, more time to focus on questions I guess.

blame the CPD

they've set a bar that only Ross Perot could have reached: at least 15% in each of several national polls

[Edited on October 16, 2012 at 9:15 PM. Reason : most pollsters don't even mention anyone but the D or the R

When the candidates are so hardcore professional politicians, and when the difference is so small, and when they always adjust their position to the audience, how can anyone be decided in the first place?

Thanks lewisje! I'll check that out. I think given the even more divergent philosophies of those two 3rd parties, that it could be a stimulating debate.

the way romney is speaking, it sounds like he's giving a talk to a group of 3rd graders. smooth, un-animated boring snore snore blah blah blah

obama is more animated and more interesting to listen to

also, romney is trying to tell candy how to run this debate

anyone know the deal on this oil drilling thing? why does it even matter if drilling is down on public land, if production is up overall? That seems like a good thing...

So... Did Romney just admit that his plan is to eliminate most of his taxes?

I mean, it's not like that isn't known but it's weird to hear him say it out loud.

Obama hasn't got the memo about the $5T claim, huh?

Quote :
"—"Gov. Romney's central economic plan calls for a $5 trillion tax cut." Here Obama uses an estimate from the Tax Policy Center, a Washington research group, that Romney's tax cuts would reduce federal revenue by $465 billion in 2015. Multiply that by 10 years — a common budgeting procedure in Washington — and he is in the ballpark in talking about $5 trillion. But Obama leaves out Romney's proposals to reduce or eliminate tax credits, deductions and exemptions. He is only counting half the plan. Romney has not specified what tax breaks he'd cut, opening himself to criticism that he's been stubbornly vague on vital elements of his plan. But there's no question he says he will pull some back, reducing the cost of his tax package."

Did you miss the part right above your post where I said he was cutting deductions for the middle class? I also didn't mention that making it revenue neutral involves major cuts to Medicare.

Enjoy your child deduction? Enjoy student loan payment deductions? Tough shit!

"—From the State of the Union on, the president has told the nation he wants to take "some of the money that we're saving as we wind down two wars to rebuild America," as he put it in the last debate. There is no such pile of cash. The wars were financed mostly with borrowing. So treating the end of wars as a financial bonanza just means continuing to go deeper in debt to fix roads, bridges and the like. The potential benefit is that borrowing is put to more use at home. But it's still borrowing."

Obama won tonight's debate. The problem? Both candidates are still truly only going to answer to their big corporate and special interest donors. It's plutocracy

Three separate polls, CNN's poll, Public Policy Polling's poll, and the CBS News poll all calling this a victory for the President. CBS also found in its poll that Biden won the VP debate. Romney is really going to need a victory in the final debate next week. Early voting starts in 2 days.
