Talley Student Center is an Early Voting Site every day of early voting. Anyone living anywhere in Wake County can vote there during early voting, even on the weekends. Thanks to same day registration you can also get registered or update your registration address when you go if you need to.
Starts on Thursday the 18th, so only a few days now! 10/16/2012 8:24:30 PM

If you're already registered, then just state your name, your address, and provide your signature. They've already used your social security number or driver license number to check up on you. (You can't use same day registration on the actual election day though because that doesn't give them time to check up on you, I think).
If you're not registered, then check out this link: http://www.ncsbe.gov/content.aspx?id=135
In particular you'll probably want to click where it says "Click this link for a full list of acceptable documents" to download the PDF that lists 'em all. But probably the simplest is to just bring your license.

Here's the Wake County Board of Election's phone number: 919-856-6240
Hours of Operation Monday - Friday 8:30 a.m.–5:15 p.m. They pay people there to answer the phones and answer the publics election related questions. I'm happy to answer any questions I can, but I also thought I should throw that out there so people could get official answers or check up on anything I'm stating. I've called them about this sort of stuff before, so I know they're friendly and helpful. 10/16/2012 8:52:11 PM

A social security number or license number was required at the time. If it was not provided, then they will actually have to show an approved ID when they go to vote. And registration can only be done in advance where it can be checked out, not on election day itself for that very reason I believe.
That said, given the political environment, I fully believe this is the last election in North Carolina's history that we'll have without the addition voting identification requirements and burdens that we've seen in many states that had 2010 conservative takeovers. I'd be more open to additional identification requirements though, if I saw them being done in a nonpartisan way that are adequately funded, that don't create a poll tax on poor voters, and don't do partisan shenanigans like letting concealed gun carry licenses count but student IDs don't. 10/16/2012 10:02:13 PM

If a person has a concealed permit they already have MANY forms of ID. They were required at many, many stages during the permit process. Student IDs on the other hand are not valid ID.
Everyone should have a government issued ID card. 10/16/2012 10:10:18 PM

FYI, people doing the voter registrations aren't the ones who check, it's the board of elections that tracks the information when the forms are turned in and processed.

NCSU student IDs are government issued IDs. But I feel like this is getting off topic. I just wanted to raise awareness that we can vote on campus this year, which is a place a lot of tdubbers will be familiar with, and is something I'm happy to see. 10/17/2012 12:24:49 AM

You can start voting at Talley tomorrow (Thursday the 18th) as soon as 11am until 7pm.
Regardless of what candidate you're voting for, voting early is more valuable for them than voting later, so their volunteers/resources/time aren't spent reaching out to you with phonebanking or other contacts.
Help your candidate by voting early. Vote soon and get yourself off their lists! Vote tomorrow at Talley! 10/17/2012 8:00:22 PM

In name, as opposed to what, in the spirit of identification? I seem to remember getting into college and getting that NCSU ID as a pretty rigorous process. Not that it matters. New ID restrictions will be the law of the land in NC by the next election regardless, so I don't think we should let this thread get too side tracked by one person's ID comments.
Vote early! Vote tomorrow! ... or I guess technically today now that it's after midnight. 10/18/2012 12:20:01 AM

As in, how easy it is to fake the ID, for one. The concept of a "government issued ID" has more intent than simply "any old ID card given out by any random assed agency, no matter how tangentially related to government it is". Surely you would agree that a driver's license is on a different level than a college ID...
BUT, we can both agree that the ID requirements should be done on a staggered scale with plenty of notice about the change and plenty of time for people to get IDs who don't have them, as opposed to surprising people 6 months before the election. 10/18/2012 9:35:49 PM

There is more value to voting early than on election day IMO. Besides getting it out of the way, they track party affiliation of voters to see who has the momentum, and campaigns spend resources trying to remind people who haven't voted yet to vote. If you're listed as already voted, they wont waste those resources on you. 10/19/2012 12:17:55 PM

^^Has to be in your own county during early voting, but it can be at any of the early voting sites within your county.
But if you wait until election day, then it'd have to be at your own specific polling place. So you get the most flexibility during early voting.
Here's a complete list of Wake County early voting sites, maybe you can find a close one: http://www.wakegov.com/elections/info/early/locations/Pages/default.aspx

Just voted at Talley. From the time I parked my bike to the time I got back on it was about 25 minutes, and that includes waiting in "the longest line [they've] seen yet" (about 10 people, 3-4 minutes) and voting for each candidate individually.
When I walked in for "verification" all they asked me for was my name and address. I had my wallet out of my pocket ready to show them ID and she said "we won't ask you for anything like that unless we have to." Really? Lots of people know my name and where I live, any male could have gone in there and gotten my ballot. Hell, I know the names and addresses of a few of my guy friends that I know probably aren't voting, there's nothing stopping me from getting a few more ticks for my candidates of choice. Sure, a felony, but who cares when there's almost no chance of getting caught.
[I am not doing any such thing. It's just the idea that concerns me.] Sure, voter fraud isn't the issue some would make it out to be but I feel like you should have to give SOME sort of suggestion that you are who you say you are. 10/31/2012 3:43:46 PM

- Early voting ends tomorrow
- If you early vote campaigns are less likely to waste get out the vote on you, and instead send that final phone call, door knock, or mailer to someone who needs it
- Over the weekend we'll see how many people of which party affiliation have voted so far, which could add or subtract momentum from campaigns you support
- If I remember right on election night they release the early vote totals when polls close, and the rest as they are counted up, so you can help your team take an early lead on election night by voting early
- Find the early voting sites/hours for your county by entering your county here: http://www.app.sboe.state.nc.us/webapps/OS_sites/ 11/2/2012 8:28:33 AM

All of Wake County's early voting sites (including Talley Student Center) are open until from 11am to 5pm on this Saturday the 3rd. Check here to confirm and see the locations, or enter a different county if you live elsewhere. It's your last day to early vote (& to same day register which you can't do on Tuesday of election day itself so do it now!).
