Anyone have advice on good b&b's in Western Virginia? Wife and I are looking to go somewhere a couple hours away from Charlotte to have a nice anniversary weekend. Would like a place with nice views and a few good restaurants. Any thoughts?

Hotel Roanoke - - Used to stay there on business trips and loved it....
(Noted, not a B&B - but the best French Martini I've ever had, and I love the "little" downtown area).

Also, Lots of independent restaurants that had great food - - Montanas, Corn Beef & Co, etc. Not super pricey and extravagant, but I enjoyed them...

That's funny, I too have had a good martini at Hotel Roanoke

On an aside, I always have a great time in Roanoke and there is plenty of outdoorsy stuff to do there

interestingly, the only three times I've set foot in Hotel Roanoke were for prom (x2) and then, many years later, to have a martini

agreed that there's no view from Hotel Roanoke and it's not to be confused with a B&B, but it fits the requirement of needing nearby restaurants

I'm noticing a trend with the martinis at Hotel Roanoke...

If you're looking for more seclusion and views all around, the Abingdon and/or Bristol areas would fit the bill nicely

If you're into hiking, you almost have to hike this one...

http://www.roanokeoutside.com/mill-mountain-star-trail

There is a real-time camera up there (on or near the star) so you can sit in front of it like a doofus and tell all your friends to check you out online...

Roanoke was great, thanks for the recommendations. Went to a Pumpkin Beer festival, walked around the farmer's market, got a decent dinner at Blue 5, had some chicken & waffles at Thelma's. All around a solid overnight trip.

earlier this year we went to the Mark Addy Inn near Charlottesville. There are a few good brewpubs and lots of wineries in that area, beautiful scenery, and the perfect place to propose we had a hot air balloon ride lined up for one morning while we were there but the visibility was too low and it got called off, but we still had an awesome time.

and it's just a few minutes off of the blue ridge pkwy
