My boy, Slinger has been working tirelessly on this documentary and it was finally released a couple months ago.
If you like docs, I'm pretty sure you will find this one quite interesting.

This gives a little insight into the functional glass world and the level of innovation coming out of small studios these days. Almost every person in the movie is someone I've either worked with at one point or known personally.

Sling put everything he had into this film and I think it shows.. was professionally shot and edited and it has been getting amazing reviews and was highly acclaimed at sxsw.

Degenerate Art is available on demand from iTunes, Vudu, Walmart.com, amazon, and many other on demand providers.

Thanks..I know I'm biased but I think this doc is incredible.

Please download or rent it!

Thanks!

I was hoping for more of the technical side, but I enjoyed it nonetheless!

It definitely reignited my interest in lampworking.

for anyone who wants to see more actually assembly work...there are many videos from me and other artists that are pretty good..

my buddy Jason Lee (probably the most well-known pipe maker working today) puts up really nice, well-edited videos of some stuff..here is one of a full double layer double bub being assembled..

http://vimeo.com/38002499

on his vimeo page there should be plenty more!

also..if you search "el Hefe" on youtube you should find some videos I have uploaded also

thanks for your input guys

(if we made more money selling art without the bowl push...trust me, we would)

did you miss the whole "pipe movement" part of the movie?

^very few "bongs" were pictured in this documentary, your close-minded opinion is noted.

You can make money without doing pipes. A high school chum does glass work for a living.

Dont let the name fool you. She has an unfortunate name.

YEAH!!! DEGENERATE ART BLOWIN UP ON NETFLIX! nice to see some people get it

"you can make money without doing pipes"
HAHA

my goal isnt to "make money"...its to MAKE A LIVING
when i feel like making goofy little sculptures...i do them, but i dont look to compete in the $20 a piece market.

^she is working with soft glass...possible in a house environment with simple torch and tools.\

Borosilicate (pyrex) has to be done in a shop environment with expensive equipment.
the raw glass itself is MUCH more expensive than other types of art glass (morretti, effetre, etc)
and fortunately, it sells for a bit more than the glass most people are familiar with.
when you go into a gallery or art display where glass work is on display, 99% of it is soft glass...

for people without a name in the industry...maybe pipes arent the best money. For a lot of established artists..pipes are what they are known for, not like the you see in stores though.
my high end work goes up in private facebook groups where either store owners or collectors purchase them.
there more pipe-makers with borosilicate art in galleries than there are borosilicate glass-workers with boro art in galleries. It was plainly stated in the movie..the pipe-makers are the ones pushing technique, color use, equipment, and everything else to the next level. THe rest of the industry is benefitting from the leaps and bounds pipe-makers are making. Pipes teach you to try everything...most other glass artists concentrate on one thing and hope it sells.

over the past 3 months I havent made single pipe though...i recently got into making marbles and the collectors have really picked up on them...I am actually making as much with the marbles right now as I do making pipes...and its fun to keep things changing..

here are some examples:

...there is no way in hell i would be able to get good prices without already having an established name in the pipe world.
