That's a couple hundred thousand more than this time in '08. Real Clear Politics put us back in the swing state category. And this NC based polling company says it's tied:

Your peers are voting in record numbers. And your vote could make a difference more than usual. No matter who you're consider voting for, make sure to vote. Let's break the record for highest turnout ever in North Carolina's history. 10/25/2012 9:06:38 PM

^^^ well the delegates in the electorial college do not officially have to vote the way that the state did. If one wanted to change his mind and vote the other way, they can.
Typically, if a state is won by a party then a delegate is sent from that party so it rarely (if ever?) happens

I wish people would stop saying this. It's an endorsement of our 2-party system, much like China's 1-party system. Every vote you cast for a major candidate is counted as an endorsement of genocide through mechanized warfare, automated surveillance of the telecommunications of the entire nation, fiscal policies that transfer your tax dollars to the inner circle of banks that "commune" with the Federal Reserve, and so many other issues the candidates ALL agree on.
If you weren't decided to go vote - that means the system hasn't offered you a real choice. Go turn in a blank ballot, and be sure to tell everyone you see there that you don't recognize the legitimacy of the election and you cast a protest vote. 10/25/2012 10:16:12 PM

I, too, have always thought that was a spectacularly retarded thing to say. It should be educate yourself, and then vote, or don't. But voting just to vote because you have been brainwashed and badgered into thinking that it's something you have to do at all costs is pretty much so the opposite of being a responsible citizen.] 10/25/2012 10:20:58 PM

And that has happened a whopping 11 times in the history of our presidential elections. One of those being when an elector mistakenly voted for Edwards instead of Kerry. (Or so I read.) 10/26/2012 10:07:17 AM

My vote will only make a difference if the total number of votes looks like this:
n vs. n+1
Given that that scenario is extremely unlikely, I see no point in voting. 10/26/2012 11:46:00 AM

They're really plastering the internet with their ads. Reaches their demographic and you can have a lot more marketing outreach for less money online than with TV and radio. 10/26/2012 11:46:19 AM

Your vote counts, but no it doesn't matter. Even if it was a 1 vote margin, it would be decided by the courts after a round of recounts.
That being said, I still voted because I feel it's my civic duty. 11/4/2012 2:24:15 PM
