Keep that MMA garbage out of here, real boxers only.
So I'll kick it off that Ricky Hatton is making a comeback! He wants to be world champion and who knows, maybe he's still got it. I'm not a Manchester fan but he always makes for lively crowds.
Pacquiao-Marquez IV is six weeks away and whispers of a Mayweather-Pacquiao fight on April 20th.
Pacman all the way! 10/26/2012 7:45:34 PM |

GO MANNY!
Anyone know of good spots to watch the fight (preferably without cover)? I usually go to Los Tres just because I don't know any other places that definitely show the big fights but they jack up their margarita prices on fight nights so I'm open to suggestions. 12/7/2012 3:08:45 PM |

^Pretty safe call seeing how he got knocked out in his comeback fight and retired again. I always enjoyed watching him fight, but at this point, he's going to get hurt if he keeps trying for one more shot. The years of huge weight shifts and not taking care of himself between fights probably shortened his career by a good 3-4 years. 12/7/2012 6:18:01 PM |

^^LOL! The knockout is one of the down sides of combat sports. You get all of that hype and a quick finish. That is why my cousin and his friends said they are never PPVing another fight. One time they paid the money, had a cookout, and Tyson won on a one punch knockout. 12/9/2012 1:09:10 AM |

well yeah, you don't buy a tyson ppv fight, that mofo ends it quickly.
But that knockout was one of the best I've seen in boxing in a long damn time. He got Manny right square in the jaw and dropped him like a boss. and with 1 second left in the round as well. INSANE.
And did you see Mitt Romney & his wife in the background, it was cool to see them go all "OH DAMN" when the knockout happened.
Did anyone watch all the other bouts as well? That second match was boring as fuck. 12/9/2012 9:31:25 AM |

If he loses I really don't see where he goes in the future outside of Macao.
Turned on ESPN Friday Night Fights last night in time to see the main event. It had a guy that was a 15-to-1 favorite. For regular cable boxing, NBC Sports Boxing >>>>>>>>> FS1 Boxing and ESPN Friday Night Fights.

A sort of entertaining day of boxing. The first two fights on Showtime were good. The Heavy weight title fight on ESPN was pretty boring, and the main event on Showtime pretty much sucked too. 4/27/2014 12:36:53 AM |

^Teddy Atlas says his 3 losses are against no name fighters and Joe Louis beat all of the no name fighters that he fought. I think he is pretty good though. He's even beat some black fighters. I've only seen a white fighter beat a black fight once when watching boxing. 4/27/2014 11:08:18 AM |
Flyin Ryan All American 8224 Posts user info edit post |
^ you don't watch European fighters on HBO or Showtime ever then, Sergey Kovalev? Gennady Golovkin?
Atlas is not a neutral person when it comes to talking about Wladimir Klitschko. He's hated Wlad for years and was the trainer of Alexander Povetkin, who had a mandatory title shot against Wlad for two years and pretty much defaulted...because Atlas thought Povetkin would get dismantled by the guy he thought was very beatable.
(Povetkin did fight Wlad late last year in Moscow, but Atlas by that point had been fired. He'd done a terrible job developing Povetkin for an eventual Klitschko fight when you look at Povetkin's opponents.)

I had Floyd winning 115-113 with Maidana taking rounds 1, 4, 5, 8, and 11.
Thought Maidana had an excellent gameplan, so props to his trainer. Maidana was much more the slower fighter, so get Floyd on the ropes where he can't juke and just throw. Anyone from this point forward that wants to win against Floyd better have somewhat similar tactics. Not seen all of Mayweather's fights but that's the most effective tactic so far. And Maidana put forth the best effort easily since Cotto of Mayweather's opponents. (On a side note, I think less of Canelo Alvarez and his complete lack of accomplishment in his fight against Floyd after Saturday night's fight.)
As for Mayweather, not sure if this was down to a great Maidana or he was just slowing down a bit. Most commentators were thinking a near shutout decision for Floyd going in.

He rematched Jose Luis Castillo in 2002 after a lot of people thought Castillo won the first fight and Floyd took the decision.
Doesn't surprise me. I think the public have realized Floyd will never fight Manny and outside of Manny when you look at Al Haymon's clientele, avoids risks in his matchmaking. Ghost Guerrero earned a fight with Floyd solely from beating fucking Andre Berto. What's going to happen Saturday night? We know the script (yes, I'd like to jinx this and get something else): Floyd's going to win a decision in a not that entertaining fight, probably more comfortable than his fight with Maidana in May, and will be more active moving around the ring so Maidana can't pin him on the ropes like he did before. Say 117-111.
Meanwhile Showtime loses more money on this deal.
