Anyone know how people with lower than 35% tint pass inspections? My friend just moved here and her car has about 20% tint since it was legal back in her state. She's trying to avoid spending money to retint. I see tons of cars driving around town with dark tint. How do they pass inspection?I don't think she can pull off the "roll down windows" approach.Maybe there are inspection stations that don't give a flip? Feel free to PM me. Really appreciate it.[Edited on October 29, 2012 at 11:36 AM. Reason : thanks!]

Cant you just roll your windows down and pull your window fuse? There is no law on having windows on a vehicle, and if they cant roll them up they cant inspect them.

have they caught on to the window trick? wouldn't it seem kind of obvious when they can't roll up the window? would they check the fuse?

Perhaps not at Jiffy Lube. I think it's worth a try, especially considering they don't charge if you don't pass (pretty sure that's accurate)

really? is that just Jiffy Lube not charging first if you don't pass or all inspection stations?from what I recall with my own experience in the past, if I failed, other places still charged me first and then if I go back to reinspect after fixing, I pay like $5 or $10 more to complete it.

even if they can find someone who will pass it, NC SHP will eventually pull them over, check it on the side of the road, and write a ticket.

^ this too... my tint is legit (previous owner put it on) and it's been checked by the fuzz before... i don't even think it's 50.
10/30/2012 11:14:18 AM
What is NC SHP ? State highway patrol? What about local driving. Will cops still pull you over b/c they "suspect" your tint is too dark?I see people driving around with dark tint all the time.
10/30/2012 11:18:53 AM
basically my thought is this...giving the cops the least amount of reasons to pull you over is probably the best ideal

damn so you recommend her strip and retint eh?any cheap tint places to do it? she's on a budget

I think mine was rpd but i'm not sure... i don't even know if they really tested it... it was 1 am an they probably ran my plates and saw the old dui and made up a reason to stop me. (stone cold sober i don't drink and drive at all anymore)

Ive had illegal tint on the front windows of my suv for 10 years and never been pulled over.I have always had a shop that would inspect for me. I usually just roll windows down and they dont say anything. Initially he said "if anybody asks you got your windows done after inspection." And no I dont want to tell you which shop i go to.
