I disagree with this. The people posting most consistently are old farts with kids and jobs. Of these new users how many are posting regularly and not lurking? How many are buying premie accounts?

I still get that chit chat is the NSFW forum on the site, but I'm with MisterGreen; it probably does reduce overall traffic to the most popular forum and all so some folks can not have their "right" to post nudity curtailed.

Furthermore, I don't know that the undergrads are being wooed by NSFW pics in threads. I doubt they're here for that.

Byrn Stuff needs to be added to that thread.

He is falsely correlating the lack of new undergrads to NSFW material in Chat Chat, and completely fails to see that the SFW forums aren't blowing up. If the SFW forums where blowing up, while chit chat was decreasing in popularity, he might have a case. But this can't be further from what's happening. Each forum is decreasing proportionally, meaning, new users have dried up and old posters are slowly starting to stop posting.

The only way to get new users is by advertising. There is no advertising for this site.



To relate him to the thread I made in Chit Chat, the reason I call him a "humantard" is because he was ONCE an undergrad, yet he is baffled about what undergrads like and dislike. He questions what undergrads are looking for even though HE, himself, came to this site as an undergrad with even less stringent policies and even more craziness.

In fact, the VAST majority of the users who post on this site today signed up when they were undergrads.

It just blows my mind how people like Byrn Stuff graduated college with analytic skills that led him to the concluding that undergrads don't like NSFW material. Undergrads want to express themselves. Undergrads want to party. They have energy. They like to speak their mind.

What this site needs is to kick out the people who feel like they have outgrown the site. That'll instantly make the site more fun.

Attacking and suspending fun people with a huge personalities like Settledown, Grayfox, Pryderi, Bubblebobble, and even me, is the real reason this site keeps heading toward the direction of "DULL" and "BORING" and its lack of relevant and interesting topics that keeps undergrads away.

tl;dr version: To attract more undergrads, you must advertise and get more undergrads signed up.
Undergrads walking into TWW, today, is like us walking into a John Denver convention. 2 out 100 of us would stay, the rest will leave as quickly as they entered.

secondly, no one is saying no NSFW material; people are advocating for there to be better moderation of posting NSFW material and for the users to be at least somewhat responsible for doing so, e.g. labeling threads as such, not posting NSFW material in non-NSFW threads (which has been and is against policy and users have been suspended for it).

Smath and I (et. al.) would just appreciate consideration among a user base that has shifted from mainly undergrads to working age folks. There are tons of NSFW threads in Chit Chat, which people avoid. Then there are threads that aren't and for no reason need to be, e.g. the sandwich cutting thread. In the same way that padding can ruin an otherwise innocuous and productive thread so can the posting of NSFW content.

For the record, I didn't correlate anything, but I did hypothesize that NSFW content isn't motivating users to stick around. I haven't "forgotten" what undergrad was like, but you are assuming things about my undergrad experience. When I joined TWW, it's because there was a community of users posting entertaining and -- at times -- interesting/helpful content. I stayed after meeting and forming friendships with a lot of these people. TrjnMan007 drove me to Bojangles as a freshmen in Sullivan. WillemJoel drove me to first concert in Raleigh. [user]Frygandes[/user] and FUCK! talked to me about my writing and went to poetry events with me.

I've never bought the bullshit about, "This is TWW we've got to be hard/shocking/offputting/offensive." That isn't what made me stay, and for people who aren't trolls or masochists, I doubt it's what's making the stay.
