Zune/Xbox Music >>>>>>>>>>>> iTunes
even if you don't buy into the rest of the ecosystem, iTunes is ugly and terrible. Zune/Xbox Music is so much more beautiful. I also don't understand how my top of the line CAD work station can come to a crawl because of iTunes. 11/14/2012 1:14:03 PM

My original reason for being more Apple friendly (buying Apple) is I always felt like I couldn't make the other side of the argument. Plus I wanted to give Apple a try. I had the iPhone 3gs and 4 and the 13" Mac Book Pro as well as the 3rd generation iPad.
They were all great quality, user friendly, stable, and I felt cool using them.
The problem was I didn't REALLY use them. The iPhones were great but they were always lacking in features and the nerd side of me had to jailbreak and play around. This felt like I was half-assing it and I should just move to Android. I think I made the jump at the right time. Jelly Bean is really impressive. Plus other than adding the notification window and letting you open the camera from the lock screen Apple hasn't really made major improvements in the UI since 2007 (oh and now you can have a background picture).
The Mac Book pro was alright but I still think OSX sucks and the inability to turn off the boot up sound annoyed me. Plus I'm in consulting and carrying around 2 laptops just so I could be compatible with Microsoft was annoying. The only thing I miss is the trackpad but a good mouse beats it hands down.
The iPad was a beautiful device but I never used it. It was just too big and crippled in functionality. I want cool widgets, and UI changes through apps, and a file system I can actually mess around with. Not to mention I can drop and drag whatever I want onto a $50 64GB sd card on my phone now and it'll play without having to deal with converting, finding an app, paying for it, dealing with iTunes, etc, etc, bleh bleh bleh.
In the end Apple wasn't user friendly to me. Everything I wanted to do took additional steps which could have been accomplished much easier through Windows or Android. I do need to give a Windows 8 phone a try though. Both my parents have iPhones and iPads though and they love them though.
With how successful Samsung and Google are right now I think things are going to change. Not to mention the iPad mini was a complete disaster. Jobs never would have succumbed to the competition and released and sub-par product like that.

Another good topic. I have a decent library of flac/lossless music which I drag and drop to my SD card on my phone and it plays in the native audio player. Much easier than iTunes.
Although truthfully I'm a Spotify convert. With premium you get all the 320kbps music you want and the radio is actually great now. I love the "liked from radio" playlist. It always lets you download whatever music you want to your devices for off-line play. Much easier than dealing with files. I'd rather pay for access to all music then pay per song.

that sounds like itunes for windows, and yes it blows goats in that regard.
im not crazy about itunes on the mac either, but i don't hate it enough to switch to a different app.

That's my informed opinion after seeing how many people are returning them at Bestbuy (after talking to a manager over the weekend) and all the reviews I've read. Apple half-assed it. Lets release a sub-par non-retina 7.9" tablet that's essentially a big iPod because everyone else seems to think 7-8" tablets are cool. 11/14/2012 1:22:59 PM

the issue i have with spotify is its compensation model for the artist.
in 2010 it was looking like artists were getting $.00029 per stream. Grizzly Bear recently claimed that they get $.001 per stream. Wow 11/14/2012 1:31:30 PM

spotify sucks if you have any kind of music collection at all. everytime i'm at someone's house and i search for something its like "holy shit they have this on here? no way!" then 2 seconds later i'm like "Wow this is known to be their worst album by far"

Agreed. That's another discussion though. Spotify is still better than iTunes match which I think is currently 0.003.

I have no idea what you mean. Most artists I search for it has their whole discography.

Haven't tried it yet. Seeing as I have an Android phone I don't know how well Xbox music works on it, if at all. 11/14/2012 1:49:37 PM

Spotify doesn't have Alice Cooper - Love it to death. I forget the other shit i was looking for but it wasn't there. Most of it was classic rock. Shitty metal is only one of the genres of music I have an unhealthy obsession with
