I'd just like to point out that it's not correct to fully (or probably even primarily) blame America for either Iran or Afghanistan (particularly Afghanistan...the Soviets were more culpable there, although our lack of consideration of follow-on effects from intervening via Pakistan and loss of interest in follow up after the fall of the USSR was a factor.

^^True, but Iran is largely on us.

Cuba is probably a 50/50 between us and the USSR.

^100% correct. Religiosity is a plague on humanity.
