Plan to decorate this week, and I hope to get our tree this weekend. Also need to get in a first Santa visit.

We always had real trees growing up and that is what I have said I wanted once I start putting one up myself. My wife and I haven't had our own big tree yet though since we always are out of town for Christmas and New Years.

We've been talking and I might just pick up a decent fake tree this year so we can finally start putting a tree up but not worry about the hassle of a real tree when we aren't home that much around this time of year anyway.

^^ haha no way would I have the patience for doing something like that. I don't even have the patience for tinsel. In my family we always used candy canes for trimming

It's pretty common to for people to put up their Christmas tree the weekend after Thanksgiving. In fact, pretty much everyone I know does it.

When I was a kid I think we were the only family that waited until mid-December to put up the tree. All my friends had theirs up right after Thanksgiving. But my parents are also lazy and wouldn't take down the tree until late-January lol.

If you like to go to the mountains and do choose/cut for your tree, please support my friend Larry. His farm is about 30 minutes west of Boone. (Banner Elk/Linville area) Lots of cool little places to shop and eat around there, so make a day of it! Or better yet, make a weekend of it! There are some really nice cabins right down the road. Awesome selection of trees too. PM me if you would like directions.

If you have the cash and want to order a fresh cut tree, check out Trees 4 V....proceeds come back to the V Foundation.

It's the farm that Tommy Burleson is a partner (I think I spelled his name right)

anyways here's the link http://www.jimmyv.org/2012/11/trees-4-v/ or you can go straight to http://trees4v.com/

^ for the record, "fresh cut tree" means that it was cut about a month ago. But Tommy is a good dude, and is from the same area of the picture I posted. So support him too.

Yeah, Big Box stores and grocery stores have the oldest trees by far. My Girlfriend's family is lives smack dab in the middle of Christmas Tree country in the mountains of NC. Her mom went to High School with Tommy. They were already starting to cut in the beginning of October to ship to Food Lion and Lowes

I've always wondered what the time frame was between when a tree gets cut and when it ends up in a lot. The more you know!

It really depends on the lot. Thanksgiving is usually the busiest weekend for delivering trees to lots, but most of those trees have already been cut for weeks. A lot of the smaller lots also own farms in the mountains, so their trees are undoubtedly more fresh.

If anyone still needs a tree my brothers and I grow them in the mountains of NC (Alleghany county, near Sparta). We are selling them at my church (St. Paul's) 3331 Blue ridge road in Raleigh. Feel free to go by and pick one up this week. The lot isn't manned during the week but you can drop off payment in the church office or put a check in the honor box. Next weekend my brother or I will be out there selling trees if you want to wait until then. A portion of the proceeds goes to my church's outreach fund for charity. Some of the charities we support are Habitat for Humanity, one of the women's shelters downtown, and meals on wheels as well as the Eastern NC foodbank.

^^ very nice! But heads up, your "S" is crooked. (JK, it's probably just the angle of the picture)

Also LOL at fitting the tree in a 2-door.
