What's your philosophy on the subject matter?

Do you do it?
What circumstances do you do it?
What circumstances do you NOT do it?
Do you eat after a stranger where they left off or cut off the piece they bit into it?

What point would you break your philosophy?
Like if a Nazi soldier ate half a hamburger then threw it on the ground, would you pick it up and eat it as a concentration camp prisoner? or would you rather die?

Assuming it had neither bacon nor cheese on it, yes.

Only after certain family members and close friends.

If any of said people have obvious or ninja lip fungus/herpes/crud at any point in time, I pass.

I prefer not to eat after people but I will share a common plate if there are multiple forks. I'm not gonna take a bite of someone's sandwich or anything like that.

I'll drink after strangers but only if its liquor straight out the bottle. Aside from that, I tend to stick to family and a handful a friends. Generally I'll just get my own.

I'll smoke chronic after most anyone, as long as they don't appear to be sick and they don't get the smoking end wet/soggy.

I tend to break my philosophy while at Burning Man.

I really have the policy of: if I know you who cares... I mean, after random strangers seems odd, but with my friends i don't even think twice about it unless one of us is or just got over being sick.

We share straws, food, forks, whatever

I decide based on my mood and a general feeling associated with the unconscious/subliminal signals people put out.

Like, even with friends and family...they'll be like, "You want a bite of my [blank]?" And, for no apparent reason, I'll just be turned off, like, "Eww...no..." in my head. Then you find out a day later that they're sick or stressed or something's off/weird in their life.

I drink after people pretty often and don't care very much, though I try to be conscientious of whether other people do.

With food I am weird. I'd rather eat after a (clean-looking) stranger than my parents, and I can't explain why.

I don't even think twice about eating or drinking after my husband, kids, brother, or mom. It's not common at all, but that's just not a boundary that I have with immediate family members. I also have certain close friends like elise that I feel pretty comfortable sharing food and drinks with.

Beyond that, I don't do it. I even have some friends that I don't want to eat or drink after, much less strangers. I hate being put on the spot by some people who will offer to let you taste their drink or something they're eating. I might do it if I can use my own straw or fork, but I usually decline.

I don't think that it would be too difficult to get me to break my philosophy. If I have a frog in my throat or ate something scary hot or gross, it wouldn't be too difficult for me to take water from a somewhat nonskeezy stranger.

if somebody gets steak and shrimp and is like "oh these shrimp are great, do you want one?" or we're getting chinese food and they're like "you should try a piece of chicken" or something then i'm down

but i'm too paranoid to ever take a bite out of a sandwich/burger that has already had bites taken out of it

I got kissed on the mouth by a homeless man for a pretty long moment. I was in my car at a stop light so I couldn't get away.

Joke's on him though. I've had mouth herpes since I was a little kid. So I like to imagine he was a miraculously healthy homeless man who broke out in cold sores as punishment for assaulting the kind stranger who gave him a cigarette.

I break the chip in half before dipping so I don't have to double dip, but I don't know if that's more gross to people cause you're putting your hands all over the chip before you stick it in the dip.

?

when i go out with friends, we frequently "share" in the sense that if we get different beers, we'll pass around the glass so others can try it

if a dish we get is really good, folks are invited to try some...but it's not like i cut a piece, eat half, and they eat the other half off my fork

outside of those circumstances, i only eat after my wife

^^^^It's okay. It's generally a good thing actually cause you can get it over with early on. I've had it so long that I don't get sores anymore. So really it would have been very difficult for me to infect the homeless guy even if I wanted to.

Anyway, it's better than being 20 years-old and sharing something with someone who has a "pimple" really close to their mouth, and then having an "outbreak" when you go on job interviews or dates or whatever embarrassing situation that people dread.

Drinking after friends is never something that has bothered me, I can't explain why. I generally ask first, and if I have the option to use my own straw or drink from the opposite side of a glass, I'll do so, but going out with friends last night I had a friend try my drink and she used my own straw instead of sipping from the glass, and I noticed, but honestly didn't care. I mostly paid attention to know if was okay for me to do the same with hers. I've let people I hardly know drink out of my water bottle when thirsty.
Concerning food, I generally tear off a piece of whatever it is for my own consumption, but most people say "just bite it" or what have you.

And I probably wouldn't let someone I didn't like drink or eat after me, but that's because I just don't want to share with them or we're not as close. It is rather awkward in group settings where my best friend will drink after me and then the guy that I don't really like/am not really friends with asks, and I have to either shrug and say okay or risk impoliteness and say no.

I worked in a kitchen one time and we had some dog head beer steak night or some bullshit.. I drank a lot of beer (not after people) but ate a lot of the middle of people's steaks.. I mean they probably didn't fuck with that part

I share food in most cases without any concern. I'll take a bite from the bitten side or even finish the sandwich if you're done. My immune system is a champ, and I love sharing food.

^^^ i think what hes saying is... He ate people's steaks after they had been out and were returned to the kitchen to be thrown away. At a lot of these beer/spirit dinners they serve multiple courses. Some times as many as five. With each serving you try a different beverage and a different food item.

So after all that food and booze, a lot of people didn't finish their steaks because they were already so full on everything else. So when the steaks came back to the kitchen, he ate what was left.
