Sounds like there is a squirrel stuck in my wall of my apartment. Besides being super annoying to listen to, what are the chances he decides to freak out and chew through my drywall and enter in? Pretty slim?

He probably won't chew through your wall. Instead, he will throw squirrel parties at 3:00 AM, and have your worried that he'll die and stink up the place.

Ugh, yeah. That'll be a pleasant month of awful smell.

I'll call my apt maintenance tomorrow but I doubt they'll do anything. I imagine it's pretty common since it's in a highly wooded area.

Or he will die and stink up the place until you rip all the drywall off and find the carcass. Yay, you!

walnut-brain sized rodents who enter into your walls for either food or warmth in the cold months will generally leave to search for food elsewhere if they don't find anything worthwhile in your sheetrock corridor

They really only stink for a day or two. It's bearable.

you want to get that thing outta there- my mom had a squirrel climb into one of her heating units in one of her classrooms over christmas break, and when they came back to classes the thing had died and the room stank to high heaven. had to replace the whole unit and it stunk for an entire semester.

turn the A/C on

it's probably a female squirrel, looking for some place warm to nest for the winter

if it's not warm, she won't want to stay

^^i dont think its necessarily worth fretting over that much

i once had some type of rodent in my wall (heard it scratching around) and never once did i detect any smell

heating unit != wall

if it dies in there though, it could be bad news- they can sometime get stuck in there and not be able to get back down. The apartment complex should be able to take care of it for you- they don't want it doing any damage either.

Let's start thinking like a squirrel here, alright? We need another squirrel, that's what we need. Here's what you need to do. Crack a little hole in your wall, a tiny one, it'll be cool and then you'll slip a second squirrel in with a string tied around it. Those two will become codependent and then you'll rip the second squirrel out and the first squirrel, hopefully, will follow

Property management is having an outside vendor come tomorrow to seal any and all outside holes in to the attic space. Would be nice if the little guy is NOT in at that time, other wise he'll hang out until he dies I suppose..

Also, at like 7am this morning I heard him head out above my bedroom window so I'm guessing that's the exit point and last night what I heard was him building his nest near my fireplace and not freaking out because he was stuck. Makes sense...
