http://www.everquest.com/free
Everquest now let's players play for free on all of the regular servers. This became available earlier in 2012. This is different from the Free Server that they offered 4-5 years ago, as players now have access to the full game. You can upgrade to a SILVER or GOLD membership for some additional perks.
I'm thinking about getting back into this. I got tired of the free server previously, since it was very rare to every come across other people. I like that the new free mode lets you play with all regular players too.
Anyone else up for some questing? 12/4/2012 5:15:36 PM |

I would just play on one of the EQemu servers if I wanted to play again. 12/4/2012 6:08:55 PM |

My level22 Erudite Wizard needs some friends. By friends, I mean someone to tank the damage because my WIZ has pussy HP.
For those old school players, the game has changed a LOT from back in the day. Much easier to pick back up than what I remember. 12/4/2012 6:14:10 PM |

I thought this game got "outdated" by WoW. 12/4/2012 7:04:40 PM |

EQ came out with their 20th expansion last weekend. I agree that WoW is more popular overall now, but EQ is still doing fine. I never played WoW, so I am not a good person to try and give an opinion of each. 12/4/2012 7:29:54 PM |

Damn. I wish Asheron's Call would go free to play. 13 years and it still has a $12.95 subscription. 12/4/2012 8:04:51 PM |

I tried out f2p, and ended up leveling up a 46 monk that i twinked out. I also had a 76 necro i made back in summer 2011 (i'm an old school player who player who played from pre-velious to when wow came out).
It was decently fun again, mostly for nostalgic reasons. I wish they would shuffle the hot zones more often because those are your best bets unless you want painfully slow leveling. I'll occasionally log on my necro to kick some ass on old kunark/velious raid bosses. 12/6/2012 9:16:23 AM |

Nostalgia, indeed. I have some fond memories of dorking it up for a year when Freeport was the trading hub, AOL dial-up always disconnecting right in the middle of a raid, and spending all-nighters camping relatively stupid shit. I really want to check it out but dont think i'll have the discipline to turn it into another black hole of hobby time.
