Quote :
" Goodell brought up a proposal promoted by Greg Schiano, coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers: after a touchdown or field goal, instead of kicking off, a team would get the ball on its own 30-yard line, where it's fourth-and-15. The options are either to go for it and try to retain possession, or punt. If you go for it and fall short, the opposing team would take over with good field position. In essence, punts would replace kickoffs, and punts are less susceptible to violent collisions than kickoffs."

this would be an interesting change.

you could potentially block the "kickoff" then.
or they go for it instead of having to try for an onside kick.

I'd suggest the scoring team keeps the ball until they are stopped. Its only fair, no team should be required to hand the ball to you if you can't stop them. If a team gets 4 scores in a row the game ends (Mercy rule)

What about moving the kickoffs back to the 20. I hate watching kickoffs go through the uprights.

Only thing that should be changed is the the coin toss. Instead there should be an arm wrestling match for the first kick-off.

I'd rather see this go to 6 scores.
There have been a few comebacks of over 28 points

Goodell continues to try to ruin NFL football.

Might as well break out the flags and start calling contact fouls.

At best I see that happening in one preseason. IMO the idea of player safety is a total farce. The game is about OFFENSE. Look at almost all of the rule changes in the last 10 years: Hits to defenseless players. Roughing the Passer. Defensive holding, and Helmet to Helmet. All of those rules blatantly favor the offense in an effort to increase scoring.

WHY?

Because people go to (and watch) the game to see touchdowns. The NFL isn't losing ratings to college ball because of it's [lack of] traditions. It's losing because the average total score is 43 points, where in FBS it's well over 60.

Player safety is a joke and it always has been. It's football... everyone knows you're very unlikely to play at a high level for more than 3 years. The rules are changing for the same reason they're putting ribbons on the helmets and having "NFL [name your cause] month", simply to put butts in the seats and sell commercials.

my first reaction is thats just dumb. you're eliminating the kick off...but the nfl has practically made the kick off shit anyway. This could add a whole new facet to the game which could turn out to be exciting. Obviously it's gonna be hardpressed to be passed because everyone hates change, but I kinda like it.

I don't like how the kick off is being fucked with, but this is the first suggestion if seen that at seems like it could work (*note: not saying I like it, but it at least makes sense)

basically the kick off becomes a punt and the onsides kick becomes a fourth and long try

both a punt and fourth and long try are way more entertaining than a kick off or onsides kick

I wish people had actually watched XFL. The scramble, no fair catches on punts, freaking camera men running around on the field... it was great.
