Super Metroid, Zelda 3 and Yoshi's Island (SMW 1 is pretty much as good) are pretty much the best for SNES, I think

Mega Man 2 of course was revolutionary (as in it caused an uprising of the people in Japan which ultimately led to a bunch of tsunamis and stuff)

SMB3 of course was the bottom line

I'm trying to think if there was an arcade game that stood out above the rest - which game started 4+ player action? (along the lines of simpsons, TMNT xmen and stuff)

Pac-Man doesn't have enough to it to be GOAT, nor does Donkey Kong

Bubble Bobble on the other hand....

idk - this is a very difficult question

if I had to limit it to one game I would personally choose Bubble Bobble LOL, but obv that's not the best one ever (at least not to everyone else)

I'm not one for games with a lot of story - I just prefer White Castle a lot of action

so your answers of Super Metroid and Link to the Past would also be two games I would gladly keep if we could only keep one game

^^I agree with Bubs, you can't just have one game or the other be the answer. Where does one begin Zork, Oregon Trail, Asteroids, Donkey Kong, Ms. Pac Man, Super Mario Bros (I,II, and III), Super Mario World, Mortal Kombat, Atari XO football, let us not forget Atari 2600 Adventure.

And that's not even getting into the past, what, 2 or 3 generations of consoles.
