I have a Sapphire Radeon HD6870.
Is there some way (like through VLC or whatever video program) I can have video files defaulted to play through my HDMI cable on my tv and at all other times, only have two dual monitors (via DVI) be active? So like if I go to play a file, the hdmi output goes active and have it pop up on screen (even if it disables my second monitor). I'd like to have this be as automated as possible so that I don't have to unplug a cable every time I want to play something on my tv. So yeah, help! 1/4/2013 2:23:18 PM |

I'd try to do it wirelessly (or at least without HDMI cables), this article explains how to do it for a variety of devices: http://lifehacker.com/5802958/how-to-make-your-entire-home-airplay+compatible
That way you can do it from your phone or another computer. 1/4/2013 3:09:49 PM |

Just buy a cheap streaming device and hook it up to the TV and your network to play files. Dynamically switching inputs on a video card is always a hassle. 1/4/2013 3:56:06 PM |

Also audio switching is a major PITA too. 1/4/2013 4:50:08 PM |

Yeah but I'm assuming he probably has the same speaker set up for the computer and pc (if they're in the same room). 1/4/2013 4:53:14 PM |

Let me expand. The TV is want to have this output set to is directly next to my computer, so Id prefer to not pick up an additional device as the HDMI cable easily reaches. Exporting audio over HDMI is nice as well, though I'm fine with using my desktop speakers if necessary. 1/5/2013 10:52:21 AM |

I don't think there is a way to have VLC interface with your specific video card and have it know what outputs to make active and what resolution to switch it to. So what you are specifically asking for is impossible as far as I know. You have my recommendation. 1/5/2013 11:35:55 AM |
