I've always heard that I should convert anything over 5k into gold bars.
They're kinda heavy though. Is there an alternative? 1/5/2013 8:02:44 PM

i'd imagine if you pulled a gun on someone and was like "GIMME 10 OR 12 DOLLARS PLEASE" they'd generally oblige, especially if you were like "NO I DONT WANT YOUR WALLET OR CREDIT CARDS, I'D HATE FOR YOU TO HAVE TO GO THROUGH THE PROCESS OF CALLING YOUR BANK AND REQUESTING NEW CARDS AND GOING TO THE DMV, ETC" and you just do that like 10 times a day and thats nearly $40k a year

i'm not advocating armed robbery, let alone any kind of theft
i'm just saying, i'd probably react a lot more favorably to someone with a gun who was like "nah i don't care if you have $80 in your wallet, i just want $10 or $12, thank you kind sir" 1/5/2013 8:11:07 PM

Anything over $5k, put into land and resources.
If everything goes to hell, I'm going to pitch a tent until I can cut enough wood to put up a shelter, grow food, and shoot Bambi. 1/5/2013 8:11:41 PM

I meant that the land needs to be fertile and productive.
Wood land is great. Whenever there was a big expenditure coming up (like a surgery or major home repair), my grandmother would have some timber cut. 1/5/2013 8:20:32 PM

Keep enough in the bank to cover whatever monthly bills you pay w/ debit.
Keep everything else, somewhere else.
I heard tell that banks can lend nine dollars for every one they have in holding. 1/6/2013 7:40:20 AM

Concerning gold/silver and TSHTF...
I've heard quite a few people say, "What are you gonna do with gold and silver when TSHTF? I'd like to see you try to buy a gallon of milk at Wal-Mart w/ gold!" Scoff scoff scoff...
There may not be a Wal-Mart, but there will be emerging local economies and gold/silver will be valuable currency. 1/6/2013 7:49:03 AM

I think that land, agricultural products, clean water, wild game, lumber, etc. will be far more valuable currency than gold or silver. 1/6/2013 10:09:14 AM
