It isn't really a joke anymore. Many people see this as a credible solution.

When I ask my supposedly serious liberal friends what they think about this, and more importantly what they would have thought if Bush tried the same idea, this is the response I get:

"Well, it's no more ridiculous than Republicans actually shutting down the government."
