Eventually people will learn that publicizing == copy cats. People will stop doing it (as often) if they know their name won't go up in lights as a result.

For sure. I think the big conundrum is how to best restrict their access to guns.

that will never happen. it makes media more and more money, so they'll continue to try to be the first to break any new "information". it's just going to get worse.

They can report on it. They just need to not mention the shooter. They need to not dig up his entire history. They need not analyze every aspect of his life on tv. They have to stop giving him so much attention for the act.

I think I saw a science fiction movie about that once, NRR. It involved tom cruise using weird fortune tellers who could predict crime before it happened. I think there was an explosion or something....

2 people shot at a high school in Killafornia and that qualifies as a "school shooting" now? Thats just another day on the left coast

yup. thus far, only two shot, no reported deaths.

we're going to need a lot more torment than that if you people are trying to sell more papers.

And they would be wrong.
Besides, magazines over 10 rounds have long been banned from use/ownership/possession in CA (unless you already had them before the ban)

Shotguns are a devastating weapon at close range. That is why the police/military use them to shoot through bolted doors.

people who argue that it'd be just as easy to kill lots of people with a shotgun vs. an assault rifle are biased and illogically arguing. the fact that a shotgun can shoot through bolted doors doesn't support your argument. if this kid came in with an assault rifle and sprayed multiple shots trying to hit this one guy, he could have easily (and even accidentally) hit others. with a shotgun, he has to load it, aim, shoot, load it again, aim, shoot....

This is why we should ban guns and treat every US citizen as a criminal. The only people that can be trusted are military personal and politicians.

It is when the discussion is close range damage.

"with a shotgun, he has to load it, aim, shoot, load it again, aim, shoot...."

This has been addressed, but it is absolutely incorrect.

To me, it appears that he targeted one or two students (bullying will later be blamed) and then he gave himself up.

that was my point with my earlier comment...while this technically was a 'school shooting' since it was a shooting that occurred at a school, its far from some kind of shooting spree like virginia tech or columbine or sandy hook or texas bell tower

[NO]

If you want to kill people in a classroom, a 12-gauge shotgun is the weapon to do it with. That is the most devastating weapon he could have used for that attack. How he didn't kill anyone is beyond me...maybe he wasn't using the correct size shot?

maybe birdshot? combined with the fact that the kid was 16 and probably wasn't the greatest shot (lucky for everyone involved)

I was under the impression one doesn't have to be a terribly accurate shot when using a shotgun

it is the truest "point and click" weapon, short of a blunderbuss (which is really just another form of shotgun)

^^ Ehhh...it requires significantly less precision than a rifle, but you definitely still have to aim. The shot spreads a lot less than most people think. It's not a wide cloud of death and destruction.

A hit from a 12-gauge loaded with 0, 00, or 000 (or hell, even #1) buckshot would be horribly devastating at close range. It's the weapon I'd opt for in such a scenario. In fact, the weapon I purchased specifically for home defense (similar ranges to a classroom) was a 12-gauge shotgun.

At across-a-classroom distances, I'd guess something on the order of 5" of dispersion, give or take a little depending on choke and maybe somewhat on barrel length.
