To where? Had you lived there before? Did you know anyone (friends/family) there before you moved?

No, I stayed in/around Raleigh. A couple of years ago when I switched companies I turned down the DC/Baltimore area. Sometimes I wish I hadn't.

Right now I'm actively looking to move this summer. Don't plan to go somewhere near family or friends, but if I happen to know people there it won't really make it any more or less appealing.

I've bounced around the triangle in and after college, and I travel for work some, but I haven't lived that far afield since college yet.

Nope. Stayed in Raleigh for five years after graduation. Then moved my family back to my hometown.

Nope. Lived in the triangle for 10 years after graduation. Moved to Richmond a few months ago but I do have some extended family up here.

I kind of wish I had moved away for a while. Think it would have broadened my horizons. Though I'm not unhappy with the way things have turned out for me in the long term.

Underemployed for 6 months after grad school, then moved to Hickory

Never been there before; didn't know a damn person.

Ended up losing that job (go figure) and now I'm in Virginia

Yes. To Ikpinle, Benin. Unsurprisingly I did not know anybody there. Now I can confidently claim to be the most popular white person in town.

Yes. Moved to Greenville, SC. Knew no one there. Had been there twice for soccer camp as a kid but remembered nothing about the city itself. Been here almost 6 years now.

I'm parking it here for at least a dozen or so more years, though. I'll end up leaving active duty in 6-18 months or so.

Next up, down the road...maybe DC, to go CIA or maybe NSA?

Yes, but not far. I don't even really consider it moving away.

Between where I grew up, where I went to college, where my family lives, where I live now, and where I work now... its about an hour tops between all of them.

I love my locale. If I ever moved away, I know it wouldn't be for very long. I always pictured myself settling somewhere here around the general Philly area.

Moved from NC to Huntsville, AL about two weeks after graduating. Didn't know a single person here. I was expecting the worst given that the state of Alabama doesn't exactly have the best reputation but Huntsville really isn't that bad, thanks largely to the big scientific/engineering/technology community. Fun fact, Huntsville, AL has the second highest concentration of advanced degrees in the country (behind the research triangle in NC).

Yeah, I heard Huntsville was a pretty big hub for recent college grads... and by proxy, young singles.

Graduated in December and have a phone interview today for a job in Trenton, NJ. If I get it, I'd likely move like a 30 minute commute north so I can be closer to NYC. I've actually only applied for one job in NC. My problem is that I really like it down here and would want to become a season ticket holder for sports, etc., etc., but most of my friends are back up in the northeast. Moving a lot growing up tends to suck.

I moved around a lot growing up (assorted places within the Carolinas) and didn't feel comfortable anywhere until I came to NC State. I stayed for undergrad/graduate degrees and tried to find a job locally for about a year. My field of study (Meteorology) leads to a limited job market and I finally realized I needed to move to get experience. Moved to Norman, Oklahoma and stayed there for nearly 2.5 years. Towards the end of my tenure in OK, I got fed up from being away from family/friends, so I started applying for jobs and ended up in Columbia, SC. I've been here for about 2 years now, and wouldn't hesitate one bit to move back to Raleigh if given the opportunity. I am waiting on hearing back about an interview I had last month, so hoping that turns out well!

Yeah, it's pretty upscale for a place with 'pizza' in its name.

I haven't been there in a while.

Near Arsenal, I work in the Research Park. But some of the things we do we test at Arsenal. Actually the president of my company is an NCSU grad back in the 70's.

after I finished grad school in NYC I returned to Raleigh where I had lived before
although I lived in Asheville for 3 years after my first run with Raleigh

I did have friends and some family in Raleigh and the surrounding area
they were one of the key motivating factors in my decision to move here

if I had a job offer upon graduation I would have gone wherever that was
