I hate bands like this one that court the banjo. Mother fucker just sucks. I could play like that on LSD with my head submerged in a toilet.

Doc Watson heard them playing on the street in Boone and liked them so much he booked them for Merlefest.

Are you guys trolling or have none of you living in NC ever heard Wagon Wheel?

Darius Rucker's new single is actually him covering "Wagon Wheel", it's already on the radio and it'll be on his next CD.

And yes, everyone from NC has heard Old Crow Medicine Band's version of "Wagon Wheel".

the hootie version is not nearly as good... I love the banjo-work in the OCMS version.

By most accounts, Doc Watson was a man with tremendous talent.

By most accounts, Paul McCartney is a man with tremendous talent.

Paul McCartney wrote "Simply Having a Wonderful Christmastime."

Doc Watson booked OCMS for Merlefest.

^^ Maybe because he liked how they sang and played many old traditional songs. Maybe he liked the vocals, which gives them a sort of oldtimey feel.

But none of them are good at their instruments. And a bunch of their hit songs are old traditional songs. And people act like they are the best bluegrass band around.

I agree with Snewf. I thoroughly enjoyed them back in highschool and freshman/soph years in college, but after that I started hearing this song EVERYWHERE. EVERY BAR, EVERY FRAT PARTY, and I couldnt go to Rum Runners without some drunk slut asking for this song to be played 2 or 3 times a night.

I've called a few folks out when I hear them say "I LOVE this band". No the fuck you dont. You might love this song, but they can't name a single other song OCMS does.

I still listen to the rest of their songs, but rawleigh bars/sluts/frat parties have ruint this song fer me.

^^^^ I love the song and enjoy the band, probably my 2nd favorite of their songs after "tell it to me", and I'm not shallow enough to let popularity make me dislike a song I enjoy.

It is a good song. My main problem with this band is that they only have a banjo to have a banjo.

I dont think i'm being "shallow" at all.

It's just like any song on the radio. Once radio stations start playing the same song EVERY 30 minutes, or the song is on everytime you get in your car, you tend to get tired of it.

I'm not saying I dislike the song. It was (and is) one of my favorites. I'm just a little "over" it.

Anybody here ever heard of Kerosene Brothers? They're the alter ego of Hayseed Dixie. They just had one album, but its some pretty decent rehashes of some classics.
