^^ No reservations is on Netflix if you have it, it really is an awesome show.

He eats like half gourmet cuisine and half shitty roadside street cart or freshly butchered seal or something like that.

But his self professed love of roadside junk food makes me think his stance against cooking shows and the food network is just pretentiousness.

Bourdain and his ilk dislike the food network because they promote unhealthy cooking and use lots of prepackaged and processed food right?

What's more unhealthy and processed than the garbage he eats coming out of the bar on his shows?

I liked his book, not crazy about his show.

Has anyone else ever seen the show Kitchen Confidential. It was barely related to the book, but I thought it was pretty good.

food from a street vendor is very, very rarely processed

No, Bourdain hates how fake and generic the Food Network personalities are (this is the specific reason given)--he's definitely not opposed on health grounds. Maybe you're thinking of Jamie Oliver, but he doesn't hate Food Network. Bourdain has been VERY forward about his supreme dislike of Guy Fieri and Rachel Ray.

Samantha Brown (also from the Travel Channel) has down some hilarious bits on No Reservations though, and a lot of people think of her as a pretty generic TV host (I think she was pretty okay).

You could see the contempt in his eyes for Andrew Zimmern when travel channel did a no reservations bizarre foods crossover. Supposedly he hated emeril too until a friend told him that emeril was a good guy who had worked his way up through the kitchens like everyone else.
