Someone said they were hiring but if it's full of a bunch of dumbasses that can't talk like civilized people I don't want in.

Had a temp job with them right out of college. It was good experience and decent-ish pay, but yes, the average worker there is dumb. Make sure to check your white male privilege at the door.

It was a potluck.

"Goin' to church" is a metaphor.

I would suspect that if you're halfway decent at what you do, and want to move up out of a service desk type job quickly, that might not be the place.

If you're just looking for something for a little while, you could probably put up with it. The people I've known from ACS were not your top tier employees.

are we talking about IT services? what about the business service outsourcing portion? some of that seems a little more involved since it's not the usual "read a script" sort of process.

I was working as your basic CSR. The other CSRs were pretty dumb, but there were a couple of exceptions. I was working in the part that wasn't completely depraved. There was an other part of the call center that was straight up minimum wage CSRs, and shit supposedly got pretty rowdy on that side.

Yes, almost all of your coworkers and bosses will be black.

You will hate your job and you will want to find a new one.

"This was the most horrible experience ever. At the age of 41, I guess I'm use to professionalism, not an entry-level position, with unlearned young "adults" running around. After 3 weeks of "training", I couldn't take in any more. The "trainer" was 22 years old, didn't speak correct English, was very unprofessional, used curse while "training", sang rap songs while "training".....just not ready at all. The people in the class were just as bad, exhibiting the same behaviors. Even though he told us not to, he STAYED on his phone...and so did the class. The people this company hires are no better. Girls walking around in stilettos, looking like they're ready to slide down a pole, backs showing, stomachs showing, tight clothes, etc. I should have none how ghetto, and unprofessional it would be when I noticed these things the first day I went. This place is full of flaming men, tacky people skills, and wanna be pole swingers. HORRIBLE"

I don't think it's racism or cronyism. Most of what goes on in an ACS callcenter is outsourcing. ACS handles some company's customer service for dirt cheap. Sure, that company could outsource internationally for even cheaper, but there's a certain premium for "American" support. Xenophobic Americans don't want talk to some foreigner about their 401k or whatever.

The job of CSR at a company like ACS is incredibly easy and boring. As long as you have basic computer skills and you can talk to people, you can do the job. It's low pay, though, so the job isn't attracted the best workers. The people like me, who just need their first "real job" notch on the belt, don't stick around for long.

Can't hate on em too much, though, the experience helped.

I'm actually torn on whether I would want to hear an outsourced accent, or someone speaking to me in ebonics. I'm sorry but ebonics just isn't professional.

I still am in IT. Sorry if I gave the wrong impression - I never worked at ACS, just knew people that did. I got my start in a small start-up. (Don't know if you were talking to me or D3S

In training they really make it clear that you have to speak clearly and enunciate. No one in my group was speaking "ebonics". I remember Dave Chappelle joking in an interview at some point about how every black American is bilingual.

No, I was a 22 year old political science major that wasn't qualified to do shit. Like I said, I was a customer service rep. Took calls and helped customers with really mundane plan changes and tasks.
