I was CHASS in undergrad and grad school. Got a Master of Public Administration degree, which is somewhat like a management degree for the government/nonprofit sectors rather than the private sector, and it has worked out well for me so far. 1/27/2013 6:57:42 PM

I must say, I'm curious why you had to admit that you're curious about why he's so curious that the other guy is curious. 1/28/2013 12:36:00 AM

When did all this bullshit get slapped together?
At any rate Engineers don't need to be in on that since we basically major in all of the other three majors at the same time. 1/28/2013 1:20:08 AM

^^I didn't think that an engineering major needed to know the finer theoretical points of analysis or algebra, but I am aware that engineering majors need to learn at least a math minor's level (like multivariable calculus, ODE, and linear algebra, actually more than Dad had to take as a mechanical engineering major in the late '70s) and then some (like numerical and statistical methods and probably some complex variables and PDE, none of which I specifically *had* to learn as a math major, although I did take a class on complex variables and two on PDE).
It's definitely tougher as far as lab work goes, even tougher than the physical and life sciences, and IIRC you need to learn a broader base of knowledge than people in any of the science majors.
I remember when I was so opposed to the idea of majoring in any engineering field that I went to a university that didn't have it; basically I had conflated "engineering" and "technology" and although I'd probably still have majored in mathematics if I had to do it over again, I now have respect for what engineering majors go through. I also remember when I thought that statistics was intellectually uninteresting, but then (on my own) I learned what motivates the more basic tests and developed a deeper respect for the people in engineering and social science who rely on it most.
