recently replaced handles and hinges for 30+throughout our house. They're that early 90s brass, but rather than throw them out, i'd rather recycle them, give 'em away, or otherwise not simply go to a landfill if possible.
no luck giving it away on craigslist or freecycle.
i've never had any experiences with those scrap metal people like bubs in The Wire would take metal piping to for $$. do they take this kind of stuff? 2/4/2013 11:39:15 AM

Drop them off at Habitat for Humanity or a thrift store. Wash your hands of them and get a tax write off in the process.

oh yeah i definitely learned too late to avoid buying hinges at lowe's/home depot.
overstock.com sells 24packs of hinges for like 12-15 bucks.
a 3-pack at lowes is like 8 bucks.
i didn't really find any good deals on the door handles though. local price was the same as anything i found online, at least for the Schlage line we decided on. and by 'we' i mean my wife. 2/5/2013 10:32:50 AM

the only thing is that you don't get to see them in person...unless you're buying the exact same thing (brand and style)
we got our ORB hardware at target...8-packs of knobs were...$7? granted, they don't have much of a selection, but if you find what you want, that's all that matters 2/5/2013 10:36:56 AM

Hey, which one of y'all left the door open?...
...And tore it off the hinges, and threw it in the yard?

The habitat store has fucking STACKS of bright brass hardware, hopefully they will grow a brain eventually and take it all to the scrap yard, that is the only way it will ever leave teh store. 2/5/2013 1:05:17 PM

^true.
I'm always impressed by the quality of the light fixtures at the Habitat resale store in Cary. The type of stuff that comes out of $250k-$500k spec homes built in the last decade can make for a nice upgrade to an older home. 2/5/2013 1:33:07 PM
