Quote :
"A disabled veteran is fighting to save his service dogs life from court-ordered euthanasia.

Jeremy Aguilar, owner of service dog, Dutch is fighting to save his life after he bit someone attacking him. Dutch was kicked, punched, and hit with a metal pole, after several minutes Dutch bit his attacker and was accused of being a vicious dog.

Dutch is a 4-year-old American Allaunt and he is a registered service dog. Dutch has been with Jeremy a month after he married his wife, Heather, three years ago. Dutch has never shown any aggressive behavior before the incident, and he is a certified AKC Canine Good Citizen.

Jeremy served in the army, fought in the Operation Freedom in Afghanistan, and was also deployed to Hurricane Katrina with the Oklahoma National Guard, which was the first unit to show up. Dutch has been a huge part of Jeremy’s life and Heather says Dutch has been “the most therapeutic thing that could have ever happened,” to her husband.

The incident occurred when Jeremy and Heather left Dutch with his previous owner while they drove a family member to the airport. According to Heather Dutch’s previous owner admitted to animal control officers in court that she was beating Dutch before he had bit her.

Heather said that Dutch’s former owner said, “I started punching him in the face and kept punching him until my hands hurt so bad I couldn’t hit him anymore.” After that she then grabbed a metal pole and began beating Dutch. She then pulled Dutch from her backyard into her house by his collar. She then grabbed Dutch’s mouth and the woman was bitten on her leg and buttocks.

Dutch sustained multiple injuries. Dutch was taken to the veterinarian and the report was “Face swollen like he was hit. Extensive ST trauma on left side of face. Swelling extends from nose up to eye and base of ear. Some dried blood noted on dog’s fur but no wounds apparent in mouth or face/body.”

The Aguilar’s was shocked to see that Dutch’s eye was swollen shut and his snout had swelled to three times it’s normal size.

The veterinarian had also noted, “Note – dog was extremely well-mannered and sweet in exam room. He did not require restraint during his exam, even when his abdomen, testicles and swollen face were palpated.”

Other animal experts are stepping forward to help Dutch and his family. Carrie Williams is a highly recognized and experienced retired dog trainer and evaluator. She has evaluated Dutch an is willing to help fight for his life. Carrie said, “I truly believe this dog would not bite anyone unless he was provoked and felt like he was defending his life.”

Dutch’s former owner is pressing charges against Jeremy and Dutch through the city of Montrose animal control office in Colorado. Photos were revealed at the court that the women’s bit wounds did not have tears in the skin and she did not receive stitches for her wounds.

Jeremy was cited with municipal ordinance 6-2-9 (A), Vicious animals. The ordinance says that an animal is vicious if without provocation, bites or attacks a person or other animals. The judge agreed that Dutch was provoked, however, the ordinance applies to Dutch’s case because he bit the previous owner inside her house when the beating occurred outside of her home.

The ordinance carries a possiblity of one year and jail and euthanasia for the animal. The judge ruled Dutch’s bite a separate circumstance from the beating and there is now an active euthanization order.

The Colorado judge ordered Jeremy to post a $500 appearance bond. The judge warned Jeremy that if he did not surrender the dog he would definitely be spending the full one year in jail.

Dutch’s next court date is on February 14, at 10:20a.m. At this time, the Aguilar’s will learn their fate and the fate of Dutch. The court has asked Jeremy to surrender Dutch before the court date.

The Aguilar’s are continuing Dutch’s training and if the judge forces them to surrender Dutch they can appeal the decision.

The Aguilar’s are doing everything thing they can to help save Dutch’s life. If you would like to help you can Share Dutch’s story and also sign Dutch’s petition."

tl;dr - So this service dog bit someone who was attempting to beat him to death with a pole. He didn't even break the skin. She pressed charges and the dog was sentenced to death even though she admitted in court she was beating the dog.

How the fuck did that judge get a job? what is this shit

Why the fuck was she hitting him? Who punches a dog until their hands hurt and they can't punch anymore, then gets a fucking metal pole? Put that bitch to sleep

Obviously the Facebook version is a little sensationalized. I couldn't believe the dog would be set for euthanasia as that was written. I can only find one article on it, but it says:

Quote :
"The Montrose Police Department and Montrose Animal Control say, however, that the woman was breaking up a dogfight in which Dutch was the aggressor: After hitting him failed to faze the dog, she grabbed the pole from a tiki torch to force him off the other dog, then dragged him into her home. He bit the woman in her thigh as she was trying to clean blood from the fight off of him.

The bite sank to the bone, and she had to put her hands in his mouth to pry him off. When she retreated toward her bedroom, she tripped, and Dutch attacked again, biting her buttock, again penetrating to the bone, authorities said. When she tried to pry his jaws off her, Dutch bit her finger so hard it caused a compound fracture and severed an artery.

Dutch kept slamming his body into her bedroom door after she made it inside the room, bit furniture, and later attacked the other dog yet again, according to the police.

The woman's medical bill is about $24,000, Montrose Police Chief Tom Chinn said. "

Aren't tiki torch poles usually bamboo or something along those lines?

but yeah, punching a dog is NOT the way to go about breaking up a dog fight even if that part of the story is true.

The added info makes sense as to why she was beating the dog I guess, even though that is not how you break up a dog fight, but the story still seems off. Service dogs don't just flip shit like that.

I'm just saying, if you beat a dog with a pole and the dog bites you.... it's your fault

oops my bad

but to be fair just because a dog fights another dog doesn't mean the dog is a threat to people. She probably was only attacked because she attacked the dog.

my dog is perfect with little toddlers and special needs children, but put her around a dominant male dog and she will flip a total bitch. *shrug*

So how do you break up a dog fight? Not saying y'all are wrong at all, just curious. Not sure exactly what happened here but let's say a dog comes and attacks my dog in my yard. I will punt that bitch. And I love Dogs. I have a small dog though so that makes a difference.

A dog I had as a teenager got into a few dog fights, I had a large wooden dowel and would kinda punch it in the head or kick its non-existing balls to get it to stop. Only thing I found that was effective.

(Ended up sending the dog to my uncles farm to live out its life. It was really sick as a puppy and I think something was wrong with the dog mentally because of it)

There is no one "proper way", there are many ways various people say are the "proper way"

I used a break stick and found it to be effective for my mentally retarded dog

they break up dog fights with a hose at the spca. i've also seen banging pots and stuff used. just anything to scare/snap them out of the "kill kill kill" mode

when my dog attacked my neighbors dog I had to pull her off and pin her to the ground until she chilled the fuck out. can't let them up until they are calmed down though.

the proper way to break up a dog fight includes humping the aggressive dog to assert dominence.

That's not a nice thing to say about Ron Perlman.

I wonder why they brought the dog over to this woman's house. I know it says they were going to the airport but was this airport really far away or something? Bet they're wishing they had just left the dog at home
