For me, I enjoy the sudden changes of prosperity within a mile of each other in the same area. I love how I can be driving through an area with 1 million dollar homes and suddenly end up in the ghetto (attn Pinehurst). It really keeps me on my toes.
Oh, and of course Eastern-Style BBQ. I mean, Eastern-Style has no "help", it's just perfectly cooked meat sitting there by itself. It's got to be perfect meat prepared exactly, or it'll gag you. Western-NC-Style, on the other hand, is like Texas-style beef BBQ; you can take very average or even slightly under-average meat cooked just so-so, and with a great sauce a la' Western-NC-Style, disguise the poor meat under/inside the taste-bud-tingling sauce. Western-Style is really just a poor man's BBQ. 2/14/2013 12:51:42 AM

The abundance of nice beaches! I have been to a lot of beaches, and for some reason there is nothing quite like the NC coast. I must have lived on the NC coast in a past life or something because I feel like I am home when I'm there. If I survive long enough to be an old man, that is where I will go to retire. But really, I can't think of any other coast in the country that I've been to that has left a lasting impression. Does anyone else feel this way?
There are people who say "OMG the beach! It is, get this, where sand, yes SAND, meets water! HOLY FUCK!" - If you are one of those people I'll just tell you that if you don't understand now I doubt you ever will. Some people are just drawn to the water I guess. Its like being a bug drawn to light. I really have no idea why it calls me, I just go along with it. 2/14/2013 1:56:22 AM

i don't think you've ever had good texas brisket.
i never use sauce, nor does sauce come with any of the brisket at places i go to. make sure to get the "moist" cut... full fat cap and all it's glory. cooked with the cap up, melting into the beef, and is smoked to the point you don't need a knife. just melts. sure a few place sauce during cooking, but it's not completely slathered and covered like western nc style bbq. s
SOURCE: i live in texas.

^^no kidding. i've been to Charleston each year but i don't consider that the beach (and it's SC). But i just haven't had a solid "beach vacation" in a long time. I am really hoping to change that this summer, even if it's just a weekend trip with a shitty room at the Buccaneer Inn. I need the ocean. 2/14/2013 4:41:18 PM

Might be biased, but most NC beaches are pretty nice. Guess it depends on your definition of shitty.
A weekend beach vacation doesn't have to be expensive, especially in the off season like early October or March-April.

No question the Springs Road Gun Club...located at the Propst Gas station on Springs Road in Hickory. Right across from the trailer park.
Also, the Pracillas MCcalls or whatever on LR Blvd that took over the old Peddler Steakhouse because it has a drive thru window. That mug comes in handy. 2/14/2013 10:56:23 PM
